Anyway, right now, even without their starting center EMU is smacking the Jags around like they are playing a high school team. IUPUI just beat OU. What the heck is going on in the MAC where EMU looks like the world-beater team in the conference right now.

I agree. Right now EMU looks like a contender. IUPUI scored 97 against Ohio and couldn't get to 50 against EMU. Maybe they are making that rise in the league standings similar to what the rockets did last year.

IUPUI is a shadow of the team from last year - graduated a WNBA draft pick and lost their coach to Butler who took some of the other good players with him. For example, their starting post this year is Jazmyn Turner, who road the bench at Ball State last year. Watched a tiny bit of the EMU game and don't have a clue how that team beat Ohio - OU is struggling to say the least.

EMU 71 IUPUI 49
- see above for discussion.

BG 74 NKU 68
- Closer than I expected, given Kent beat NKU badly. Of course, NKU also beat Tennessee Tech, who beat Ball State - so I guess Kent is the team to beat (on paper) as of right now.

Ball St 80 Utah St 55

Akron 68 Robert Morris 50

Kentucky 70 Dayton 44
- Dayton still missing a few players, including Freeman. Dayton made more FTs than FGs, was 1-14 from three, and committed 29 TOs. They did out-rebound UK.

Ohio St 105 Wright St 52
- So, OSU played both Ohio & WSU this year. How come they won't play Toledo? I mean, it's been 40 years.

CMU stays winless, losing 64-33 to WVU.
- Although WVU is 4-0 now, it's not clear how good a team they are yet as their 4 collective opponents have not won a single game against a DI opponent yet.

Tulane 78 CMU 66
- CMU's true frosh Harris had 26, which was the only thing that kept this game remotely close. CMU now 0-6, and by my count has lost 17 straight.

The fact that Cinci won that game comfortably gives me some confidence that the rockets should be favored against UT Arlington.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Ball St 61 BYU 56
- Really good win, although BYU is no where near the top 15 NET team they were last year, after their long time coach (21 seasons) retired and they lost most of their best players to graduation and transfer. There was a near-fight in this game, where Becki and a BYU player got tangled up, and Becki shoved the other player forceably to the floor. The refs ended up giving both players intentional fouls, which seemed to me to be very fortunate for BSU, as Becki clearly did the worse part, and maybe could have been ejected (not sure the exact rule there). All that seemed to ignite BSU though who all of a sudden found their shooting legs and pulled away from a close game.

Ohio 74 Indiana St 62
- OU gets their 1st win over a team that beat CMU soundly earlier

NIU 87 Navy 50
- Navy is winless

Kent 58 Quinnipiac 55
- Kent had another terrible shooting night, but was able to come away with the win on a neutral court. Shumate did not score and only played 15 minutes

Evansville 97 Miami 72
- Ouch. 4 players fouled out for Miami, and UE shot 40 FTs. Miami is 1-4

Michigan 63 USF 58
- USF was unbeaten coming in

Middle Tennessee 79 Missouri St 54

Penn St 68 Fresno St 49

Charlotte 59 Cinci 58

Robert Morris 62 Canisius 52
- Canisius appeared to be without their best player, Dani Haskell for the game for reasons unknown to me

Siena 78 Oakland 71
- Oakland's only wins so far are both against MAC teams

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Drexel 53 Buffalo 35
- First decent DI team Buffalo has played. Buffalo had Latrice Perkins back after missing a couple games, but that didn't help much apparently. They did hold Drexel's Keishana Washington, who had been averaging over 30 points/game, to only 15.

Kent 72 SIU 66
- Kent hangs on against a 1-4 SIU team despite giving up 32 points in the 4th quarter.

NIU 67 Richmond 64
- Beginning to think this may be NIU's year, as they came back from down double digits winning it on another buzzer beater. Either that or they are using up all their luck in the OOC games.

WMU 102 Grace Christian 41
- Game added to WMU's schedule after the Detroit Mercy game was canceled due to weather last week. Grace is a DIII school that also lost 104-45 to Ferris State, the DII team that UT beat by 44 in their exhibition game. So, I guess this was just a practice for WMU? Seems like they would have had better competition on an intrasquad scrimmage.

Michigan 84 Baylor 75
- Baylor ranked #21 coming in. Do not know how UT is going to be able to handle UM's big, Emily Kiser. She's really impressive.

Duke 54 Oregon St 41
- UT not the only team to have trouble scoring against the Blue Devils.

Oakland 83 Stonehill 59
- Recall, Buffalo barely beat Stonehill for their only win thus far.

Akron 70 NKU 69
- OK so Akron beats NKU by 1, BG beats them by 8, Kent beats them by 23 and they beat Tennessee Tech (who beat Ball State) by 22. I guess on any given night...

Miami 79 Loyola Chicago 53
- Loyola beat WMU earlier this year, so ... ?

BG 76 Detroit 29
- This is the Detroit team that was 0.6 sec away from beating NIU, save a miracle at the buzzer.

Since posters brought this team up, WSU is only a shadow of the themselves since they lost their very good coach to a power house. Maybe that is why OSU scheduled them. They may not want no part of the Rockets.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Ohio 52 Dayton 51
- Not a pretty game. OU just put up as many threes as possible, and every once in a while let Yaya Felder throw her body around to try to draw fouls. OU shot 34 threes making only 7, and a significant number of them didn't even hit the rim (not in the good way). Felder did get to the line often enough, although she hit the floor hard about a dozen times too.
- Dayton's leading scorer Bohanon was out, and they looked disorganized much of the game and their shooting was bad even on short shots. They did dominate the boards though with a 51-34 edge. The game was decided on a pre-game administrative technical due to some rule I did not grasp on the LED lights on the shot clock being configured wrong at UD Arena (announcers said this was a long time rule but the NCAA just sent out a bulletin that they are finally going enforce it.) So the 1 FT OU made before the start of the game was the margin of victory. Crazy. Dayton is still winless, and OU is now 2-4.

Colorado 75 WMU 37
- and it really wasn't that close. WMU's 5 starters were combined 0-18 from three, and committed 19 turnovers. WMU is averaging more than 30 three point attempts per game, but not making that many of them.

Virginia 89 Penn St 68
- PSU's 1st loss to an undefeated Virginia team.

Albany 59 Canisius 48
- Canisius had their best player back, but she did not score in the game.

Holy cow, Eastern Michigan moves to 5-0, beating previously undefeated North Dakota State 73-55. The Eagles' first four wins were against bad teams, but North Dakota State was 6-0 including a win against Minnesota. I thought Eastern would be awful this year, but apparently not.

I know, it's crazy to think that a team made up mostly of backups from a 6-20 team with 1 transfer can be playing so well. I watched some of this one, and have to be honest NDSU did not look like an undefeated team - some of which can be attributed to EMU's D, but others, no. They were very slow, with guards that could not penetrate at all and although they did find ways to get the ball down low, more often than not, those possessions did not result in buckets. We will see how they do against CMU on Saturday.

Lachelle Austin, EMU's SO G, looks really good - very quick, got to the basket with ease and also hit some threes. And the transfer big, Eke, looked much more talented than expected, which makes one wonder why she didn't contribute much on a bad LIU team last year. So, we will have to see if EMU can keep this up, but right now they look like they are definitely in the top half of the MAC, if not better.

Other scores from yesterday:

Rhode Island 71 Buffalo 56
- First decent team Buffalo has played, and truthfully, they did better than I expected

Duke 66 Northwestern 50
- NW only scored 12 in the entire 1st half, but caught up some in Q4, so they didn't do much better than UT in that regard.

Cinci 78 North Carolina A&T 73
- The Bearcats in another one that goes down to the wire, as they trailed with 5 minutes left. NCA&T was 4-2 coming in, and had a similar-to-UT 20-point loss to Duke to start the year.

UT Arlington 67 Houston 64
- Houston has only 1 win so far.

Michigan 76 Miami FL 63
- UM is still unbeaten

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
George Washington 74 Ohio 57
- Rebounds GW 48, OU 22.

Ball St 82 WKU 76
- BSU up by 17 after Q1, WKU won the rest of the game but BSU was able to hold them off. WKU 27 turnovers. Recall WKU beat Miami by 36, for their only win on the season.

Miami 73 EKU 68
- MU wins despite 24 turnovers, and Ivy Wolf fouling out. Miami won the rebounding 40-27. Peyton Scott got her 1st start of the season.

BG 92 Valpo 61
- BG 14-24 from three and dominating the boards 35-18. Valpo beat CMU at the start of the season.

Akron 101 Point Park 46
- Another silly practice game against an NAIA team that had already given up 90+ points three times in NAIA games.

Robert Morris 68 Wright St 47
- Sadly, this is WSU's best performance to date.

Cleveland St 77 Oakland 54

CMU gets off the schneid, beating NDSU
- Box score indicates CMU got the win when, trailing by 2 and time running out, frosh phenom Sydney Harris was fouled on the 3 point attempt and made all 3 FTs with 1 second left. This game takes some of the shine off of EMU's win over NDSU, especially since CMU was playing today without their best player Jahari Smith. So, in my mind the jury is still out on EMU somewhat.

NIU 71 EIU 69
- NIU's magical season continues, as they get another win on a last second (alright 3 seconds left) bucket by Chelby Koker. That's three wins this year already on last second shots. NIU might want to think about saving some of that luck for MAC play.

Colorado St 85 WMU 65
- WMU had played a tough schedule but they haven't even remotely been in any of those tough games, with their only D1 win over Youngstown St who does not appear to be quite as good as they were predicted to be at the start of the season, now at 3-3.

UT Arlington 60 Lamar 56
- UTA now with a winning record at 5-4

Mt St Mary's 73 Loyola MD 66

One other late game from yesterday:

Minnesota 98 Penn St 96 in 2OT.
- Made FTs the difference, 28-7 Minnesota. Minnesota has played a mixed schedule, and although they hung close to undefeated Virginia, they also lost to NDSU who was just beaten by both EMU and CMU. B10 is gonna get a lot tougher than this for PSU, so we'll have to see how they manage the rest of the way.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
My understanding is that both Minnesota and Penn State are projected to be in the bottom half of the league. Last night Minnesota was led by a group of obviously talented freshmen who had difficulty playing against Penn State's defense (26 turnovers) but they made a whole bunch of free throws and importantly nearly all of them at the end of the game and in the overtimes. Penn State was driven offensively by Makenna and Kapinus with 52 points between them. Makenna scored 14 and Kapinus 3 against UT. But Penn State missed 5 FTs in the overtime. And they also had 22 turnovers. Both teams had good opportunities at the end of regulation and in both overtimes to win the game. I agree that Penn State will have difficult matchups against Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Maryland, etc.
