NIU 61 Southern Indiana 53
Surprisingly close game against a team that was DII last year as is transitioning to DI ala Stonehill. USI was 2-0 coming in but their wins were over NAIA Oakland City and 0-3 Western Illinois, which hasn't looked good so far this year. So, hard to tell if they are just better than expected, or NIU had a letdown after beating DePaul. I'm guessing the latter. Each team had >20 turnovers.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Michigan St 85 Oakland 39
- Similar to WMU score. OU shot 23% for the game, and committed 29 turnovers.

Missouri St 71 St Louis 55
- MSU with 27 turnovers and shot 50% from the line, but still won. They out-rebounded SLU 52-26, ouch. SLU is 1-3 with their only win a beat-down of SIUE, who lost to EMU.

Penn St 77 Youngstown St 63
- Was a 1 point game at the half. Another turnover-fest with 46 combined turnovers.

And one other one, not a UT opponent, but interesting:
Cleveland St 90 DePaul 83 (OT)
- So, NIU's win over them gets slightly downgraded, although CSU has a very good team. Another game with so many turnovers - CSU had 26. The box score said DePaul took a ridiculous 94 shots, but only made 34% while CSU shot at 49% for the difference.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Michigan 99 WMU 67
- WMU finally scored some, but apparently had no answer for UM's offense. WMU managed only 15 rebounds the entire game. Taylor Williams didn't play for unknown reasons, but one of their redshirt freshmen, Stutelberg, had a breakout game, scoring 20 while shooting 6-12 from three. MAC has been completely destroyed by the B10 so far. BG is up next against IU tonight, and OU against Ohio State.

Indiana St 84 CMU 71
- CMU now 0-3. They had to make a Q4 comeback to make it that close. They did shoot well in this one, making 11 threes on 40% 3FG%.

Memphis 76 Miami 51
- Still no Peyton Scott, and no Katey Richason either this game.

Loyola MD 61 Monmouth 59
- Loyola now has 2 wins already, last season they only managed 5 all season.

Kansas 79 UT Arlington 74
- another game with 40+ total turnovers. With all the turnovers I am seeing in games this year, I'm thinking UT can win many just by holding onto the ball. UT is 6th in the country right now in fewest turnovers, but 268th in turnovers forced.

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
The good:

Ball St 84 Butler 68
- Butler was 1-27 last year, but they have a new coach and should be somewhat better, as he brought some players with him from a really good IUPUI team. Game was pretty much even at the half, but BSU scored 52 in the 2nd. Five Cards in double figures led by Becki's 18. BSU still shot pretty poorly from three.

NIU 100 WIU 61
- WIU is winless and looks to be a poor team this year and NIU took advantage. Poisson scored 32 in only 18 minutes, hitting 9 threes.

The bad:

Indiana 96 BGSU 61
- Well the trend continues of MAC teams getting trounced by the B10. BG out-rebounded by 19 and shot only 35% overall. Fleming only played 6 minutes, so not sure what happened there, but Hempfling scored 12 in 11 minutes.

Arkansas 80 Kent 59
- Stats look pretty even except rebounding +10 to Arkansas, and Kent's poor shooting. Shumate led with 12.

The ugly:

OSU 86 OU 56
- Watched the 1st half, and honestly OSU did not look like the #9 team in the country by any means. They were missing easy shots, turning the ball over for no reason, were out of position on D often giving OU good looks. It's just OU looked ever worse. OU had 21 turnovers - in the 1st half. They cut that to 12 in H2 for 33 overall. They got out-rebounded but not hugely, and shot better than OSU - but they just took 29 fewer shots.

The weird:

NKU 82 Dayton 78 in 2OTs
- This is the same NKU team that got blown out by Kent. Dayton only dressed 7 for some reason, and played only 6 - the last player got in when 1 fouled out in OT. NKU only played 7. This was the 2nd OT game this year for each team. NKU won both of theirs, Dayton lost both of theirs.

The other:

Duke 71 Texas A&M 52
- A&M was 2-0 but hadn't played anyone of note yet, so not sure how good a win this one is, but Duke is still undefeated and is holding opponents on average to <50 points a game.

Oklahoma St 73 Missouri St 54
- Another 20+ turnover game for MSU, and incredibly they are shooting 48% from the line as a team on the season.

Wright St 98 Ohio Christian 37
- WSU gets a win over an NAIA team

I watched the Duke game. They have a big team with only two players under 5'10". Several guards are around 6' including two of their best players. Taylor, 5'11" had 14 points and Balogun, 6'1'' had 15. Both will be match up problems. They also have a 6'6" center, Brown, who is athletic, runs the floor well and can shoot mid range. Rockets should also expect the full court press which completely destroyed Texas A&Ms offense in the first half. They are also a deep team playing at least 10 players without substantial falloff in effectiveness. Will be a stern test for the rockets.

Buffalo's game with Princeton has been cancelled due to the winter storm. Their next game is against DII Mercyhurst, so it's still gonna be a while before we see how UB does against a decent DI team.

Akron 61 YSU 44
YSU scored the 1st 11 points, and ran out to a 20-3 lead late in Q1. After that, nothin. Watched a little bit and YSU did not look good at all. Maybe some of that was due to Akron, but mostly they just looked like they had no offense. YSU shot 1-20 from three. Akron's FR Stinson is 6'2 and built like a solid post, but played more like a wing and can really stroke the three. Not sure what happened to Akron's PG Corcoran but she hasn't played at all the last couple games - not sure if she was on the bench or not.

Penn St 96 Bryant 33
Bryant matched their point total with 33 turnovers, shot 24% and had only 22 rebounds to PSU's 55

Don't look now, but EMU is 3-0, beating Florida A&M 77-70

BG 100 Southern Indiana 74
- Sharps and Fleming went nuts from three which looked to be the difference. USI's game against NIU was much closer than this. BG is potentially very scary this year. And I think I understand why Hempfling is not playing - BG is running a high pressure man with a press for 40 minutes, and Kadie just doesn't fit into that game plan as much as other folks on the team.

MSU 84 CMU 54
Watched much of this and, surprisingly, CMU looked like the better team for the 1st 15 minutes or so. They definitely have some talent, but their defense is spotty at best, and they have a propensity to just randomly throw passes into the stands and things like that. MSU turned up the D and the rebounding in the 2nd half to blow the game open. CMU with 26 turnovers.

Looks like Corcoran is no longer on the Akron roster. Unsure what happened there.

Ball State got trounced by Notre Dame 95-60.
Stats look a lot like the UT Duke game, just with more points because ND ran the ball all game. Ball State shot awfully, and got destroyed on the boards. ND scored 95 despite committing a ton of turnovers.

On the other hand, Kent apparently was the MAC rep today, as they beat Oklahoma St in another stellar offensive output, 59-56.

Ohio stays winless, losing to IUPUI 97-86

Michigan 69 Fairfield 53
- Not as dominating a performance as one might have expected. Penn State beat Fairfield by a wider margin 77-49

Binghamton 75 Canisius 72

#16 Oklahoma 89 UT Arlington 80
- Oklahoma 29 turnovers. Amazed how many turnovers I keep seeing in all these games.

WKU 91 Miami 55
- WKU was 0-2 coming in. Peyton Scott got her 1st PT, but only 9 minutes and scored just 3 FTs. Cluse didn't play many minutes either and didn't score, so I wonder if she had an injury issue - hope not for her sake. Miami with 35 turnovers. Wow. That's just ... wow.

Penn St 82 Syracuse 69
- Both were undefeated coming in. Cuse led by 18 at the half, and by 10 after three, but PSU scored 37 points in the 4th to run away with the win. Dyaisha Fair had 20 for Syracuse.

Cincinnati 71 Lindenwood 60
- Not exactly a dominating performance over the former DII team, which also lost to EMU this year. UC forced 24 turnovers.

Ole Miss 63 Dayton 50
- UD still only playing 7 players

Illinois 84 Oakland 55

Loyola MD 69 Bryant 64

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
Lindenwood is a small former D2 team which should have been dominated by Cincinnati. But Cincinnati seems to be limited to two major scoring options. If early signs are a fair representation, they appear to be a bottom half team in their league, as predicted. Seems like Toledo should not have had to get two major errors by Cinc in the final ten seconds to win that game in overtime. IMO they should have been more competitive against Duke. That game was over at halftime. And the 40 points by Wright State in the second half was worrisome to me. So I conclude that the lady rockets are not as yet playing up to the level they were last year. They look tight to me. I think they are having difficulty playing the load of the high expectations on their backs. They need to get back to playing with enthusiasm and love the game. If they don't step it up quickly, they could be 3-3 at the end of the week.

Agree, kazoo. It's a lot harder to play loose when the expectations are so high. Also, last year we may not have been quite as good as our record indicated, as we won a whole lot of close games. On the flip side, you have to like how this team executes with the game on the line. Even though the start has been a bit shaky, there's still plenty of time to right the ship.

You are certainly correct. Last year everything fell into place. They won a lot of close games early. Had almost zero injuries and a weak nonconference schedule to boost their confidence. And they had players who were making major steps forward in their effectiveness as so many do in the sophomore year.

Well, if you think UT hasn't played well so far, NIU survived a game against the Spanish National Team (aka Detroit Mercy) 65-63 on a miracle play at the buzzer, after Detroit had tied it with 0.6 seconds left.

As most know, Detroit has been awful in recent years and was picked to finish last in the Horizon, behind even Wright State. They have an entirely new roster which includes 6 Spanish players and 1 from Portugal, and a new coach in BG alum Kate Achter. So, either Achter is performing a miracle up there, or the NIU team that beat DePaul did not show up at all in Detroit.

Y,es I think that the lady rockets are not playing near where they were last year. On the positive side they have significantly reduced their turnovers. And a couple of players, most notably Goss, Cook and Garcia have played well. But overall they look tentative to me like they are playing not to lose and not aggressively to win. Hopefully they will pick it up this weekend.

Buffalo continues their troubles, losing to DII Mercyhurst 70-68

and WMU gets their 1st win, beating YSU 62-54
- watched a little of this, and YSU did not look like a good team at all. Wondering how they played halfway decently against Penn St.

Canisius gets a win, beating Colgate 64-58

RE: 2022-23 WBB Opponent Scores/News/Discussion Thread
MAC announced 1 game suspensions for two EMU players - Skanes and Ozzy-Momodu - for a fight during the FAMU game. But, Skanes is playing today against IUPUI, Ozzy-Momodu is not. So that seems strange. Didn't see the fight and there is literally no mention of it in any of the articles on the game which seems bizarre.

Anyway, right now, even without their starting center EMU is smacking the Jags around like they are playing a high school team. IUPUI just beat OU. What the heck is going on in the MAC where EMU looks like the world-beater team in the conference right now.
