Men's Soccer Post-Season Thread
Conference tournament kicks off this weekend with 4 games in Lexington and Huntington. However, some news and awards broke today.

Georgia Southern Men's Soccer Coach John Murphy to Step Down
Probably not a surprise here, Georgia Southern was an outclassed team this year, and was not really competitive with the other 8 in the league.

Also, the conference post-season awards were announced, with the awards and first and second teams basically being the combined Marshall and Kentucky rosters. The top two seeds swept the 7 conference "of the Year" awards and took 16 of the 22 spots on the All-Conference first and second teams.

SBC Awards

Offensive Player of the Year: Milo Yosef, Marshall
Defensive Player of the Year: Luis Grassow, Kentucky
Goalkeeper of the Year: Casper Mols, Kentucky
Coach of the Year: Johan Cedergren, Kentucky
Freshman of the Year: Matthew Bell, Marshall
Newcomer of the Year: Adam Aoumaich, Marshall

First Team All-Conference
F - Milo Yosef, Marshall

D - Luis Grassow, Kentucky
D - Gabriel Alves, Marshall

GK - Oliver Semmle, Marshall

And finally, with the tournament kicking off this weekend, UK is showing off some of the prep occurring to their stadium, looks like the SBC logos being painted on the pitch, plus some sideboard SBC signage that isn't fully seen here...

Halftime of the first two games

WVU 0 : Coastal 0
Marshall 0 : JMU 1

With less than two minutes in the half, Marshall had a possession breakdown in its defensive back, giving JMU a throw deep in Marshall territory. JMU capitalized by quickly passing and scoring in on a cross. As a whole, JMU came into this game much more aggressive and has created more opportunities today. JMU came to challenge today.

JMU held on to win 1-0. Just caught the very end so I missed almost all of it but the Marshall coach sure seemed pissed off at the officials at the end. Not sure what happened.

Wanted a PK given on a scrum in the box in the last 20 seconds.

At the end, can't really blame this one on officials, Marshall had 5 real opportunities in the second half, and 4 sailed high (including an open net). There was a foul and yellow card called against Marshall around the 75' mark that reply showed was right, but Grassie home self got a yellow for dissent. But I don't know if that was the anger at the end... given the NCAA tournament's prelim rankings last week, we just lost any shot at a national seed despite the opportunities we created, so we're now looking at having to get 3 road wins just to get to the College Cup with this result.

Hats off to JMU, though. That's a well earned result.

South Carolina up, 1-0, on UK! That would be a huge result if it holds, and would get a 3rd league team into the tournament.***

*** Georgia State might be able to play their way into the tournament as an at large if they were to say lose to WVU in the finals, then a shot at maybe 4 teams in tournament.

That GSU attack is something. Panthers up on the Monarch’s 3-1 at the half
