Maynor just never climbed higher on the depth chart. Ivin is the straightest of shooters with his qb room, none of them should ever have doubt about where they stand or what they need to work on.
What I hear is that his decision making in the offense has never been good enough to move up on the three deep.

RE: *** Official Navy at Cincinnati Game Thread ***
My observations of the game.

Cincinnati had a relatively conservative game plan on both sides of the ball. Their D played straight up on the line and just expected to beat the guy in front of them. I did not see a lot of stunts or scraping or anything like that. The Navy line seemed to hold their own mostly against a very physical Cincinnati defense, not great but not too bad. We did not do a great job of blocking the second level but when we ran the triple there was normally someplace to run.

Arline probably played the best game I have seen him play. So that is good, there were several plays where he missed pitch reads that seemed like they could have been big though. Kind of the reverse of Tai who pitches it sometimes when he should not.

Maynor's passing was very strong, did not run much triple with him in so hard to say on that.

The two empty drives were the difference in the game though. We seemed to get caught up in the dive on those drives (and some other times) when it was not there. A lot of those looked like called dives and not reads but I will leave it to those more experienced than I to say for sure. Either way, it seems odd to me that we did not switch to a speed option or something else to take it wide when Cincinnati packed everything up the middle. My guess is because the perimeter blocking was not very good. The slots and WRs were just not very consistent and really have not been all year.

Anyway, good game Cincinnati and on to ND.

You're in the know on the team but from a distance a running QB who's 5 foot 9 and about a buck seventy taking a pounding just seems a recipe for disaster. Obviously, Arline [not Ariel LOL] is the starter due to the injury of Lavatai but he took some shots in the game yesterday and I wonder how he'd hold up over the course of a season. Too bad Maynor can't be coached up more but I understand it's also about execution of the offense.

Reasonable consideration, but Malcom Perry goes 5'10" 190lbs, so it is not inconceivable that Arline could make it work. Of course Perry also had NFL caliber speed/quickness.

1. I was going to say -- 5'9" 190 is #1 in the NCAA record books for single-season rushing yards by a QB, so I guess it could work out okay.
1.A. I still think that Arline ain't Perry -- possibly that needs a "yet" -- and I don't like that the coaching staff seems to think he is.

2. I still default to trusting Ken and Ivin...if they think Maynor is the #3, then who am I to shout for him to be #1

3. Final thoughts on the Navy at Cincinnati game:
https://navy.rivals.com/news/the-cincinnati-debrief-3
If that's behind paywall and/or tl;dr well, Vonz pretty much covered it in post #22. Cincy did what we thought (me in post #6) and we did some stuff, and sometimes it worked, but we didn't turn red zone into points, and we didn't take three "here have the ball" opportunities (two fumbles and Williams' dropped INT) and when that's the case, the Jimmies and Joes prove out and the better team won.

On to Notre Dame
