If the Hawks can hang with #1 UNC, I feel like any game is now winnable.

No doubt. We're not going to have one or two guys doing all the scoring. We may have seven guys with six to eight points on a regular basis and one or two in double figures. Defense is light years ahead of last year and looks to be one of our better defensive teams already.

These were guys who could hit a three in your face, drive and hit an elbow jumper and then could get to the basket and finish. Phillips is the closest we have to that except he really isn't a three point threat. I'm talking guys who you want the ball in their hands with 10 seconds left in the game and a two pointer wins it. I don't think you put the ball in the hands of White at the end of a game expecting him to iso and get the must have bucket. Again, he's fantastic on the court and helps us win, but he isn't that guy.

I think Ross has that type of offensive game and could be that additional scorer, but Siddle didn't want him on the court against a team like Carolina where it could ruin his confidence if he didn't play well.
I think Ross is a very confident young player who would have loved the challenge. He is also a kid that played HS ball in the area. Siddle is the coach but man they couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean from the beach -give him a chance .

completely agree with you. The opposite argument can certainly be made. He get's some PT and drains a few threes in that environment could have gone a long way for his confidence.

RE: @UNC - GAME 1
For a mid major to win these games you have to limit turnovers and not get killed on the boards and we did a good job of that. The other thing is you have to make a high percentage of 3's that is the greatest equalizer and we did not.

I like White but still do not see him as a reliable scorer on a consistent basis. I hope he does but to win the CAA you have to have the man or a man and I see that as lacking. We do have 10 guys who can play without much fall off and that i a big strength

Well, it appears to me that White is going to shock a lot of people here. If he can get his on the floor when 90% of the people he was playing against have more size and length like last night he certainly won't have trouble against teams in our league when he's longer than 75% of the guys he's playing against. Not to mention his jumper has dramatically improved. 13/6 is my prediction for him this year.

Those numbers seem pretty accurate to me and it won't be shocking at all. He will get a lot of points at the FT line since he isn't afraid to attack and has the athleticism to get to the basket and draw fouls where he is a high percentage FT shooter. We need him on the offensive boards which is where I hope he is getting a lot of points. If he is settling for jumpers and three pointers he will be playing against his strengths.

Exactly. And, he attacked the cup going left and right while demonstrating good instincts against that 6’10” to give him a good pump fake as well. I was a little worried about him being the man being just a sophomore but no more. Homey is not settling for the jumper and really mixed his game up nicely. I really like what he brings.

By his junior year, Trazerian is going to be a CAA Player-of-the-Year.

So next year. He's a really good player and I hope you're right. But based on the fact we have so many guys who can score, I don't think we're going to play the style of ball that will feature one player who can get that honor.

The best part about last night aside from the rebounding was we never let the lead get out of hand. Largest lead was 16 pts. Road game against #1 ranked experienced team - the outcome has to give everyone some element of confidence. Really hope we can pull one of these next few out.

Absolutely. When i was walking out i said, you know what most impresses me, there were many chances they could have folded and they didn't. Facing adversity, in a loud arena, against the number one ranked team every time they hit that point, they bounced back. It got to 10, cut it to 5. Got to 14, cut it back to 8. Got to 16 , cut it back to 9. At any one of those points, it could have exploded to a 20+ lead but it didn't.

I think he does enough in multiple areas to become that level of player even if the scoring isn’t always there. That’ll be more than enough to get that POY honor.

Plus, as you say, we don’t currently have a go-to scorer unless Phillips can stay out of foul trouble. Meaning White will at minimum be our 2nd best scorer on many occasions.

Either way he is consistently the most impressive overall player on the roster and is only a sophomore. Very interested to see what heights he can reach.

Does anyone know why Phillips wore #20 on Monday instead of his usual #2?

My guess is they forgot his jersey. Because he was the only one without a name on back too.

Thats a possibility in which case somebody's *** is in trouble. Im guessing it was a "blood" jersey...Perhaps Shy got cut or something in warmups.

Could be that too. He didn't appear to have it on in warmups, but, who knows.
