Lot of playing time last night by the newcomers. Denim Deshields was as good as advertised. They’ve missed a Miyah Barnes type player (with speed & can drive the lane), and now they have two: Deshields and Ware. I know it was a D2 team they were playing last night, but I believe this will be their best season since the CUSA championship in 2018. They had about 3-4 players out due to sickness last night, and hope it doesn’t spread to the team.

First regular season game is Monday at noon vs. Auburn-Montgomery. They usually bus in a bunch of elementary school kids to these early games, so it should be LOUD in Bartow.

Will our women’s team ever make the NCAA Tournament again? It’s almost as if the AD is content with scheduling weak weak and winning 20+ games but never making the tournament. They’ve been twice EVER, and not since 2000.

Shorter is quite an unfortunate name for a basketball team. Nm. [/align]

Hopefully, the new practice facility & conference will help recruiting. The players brought in this year seem to be an instant improvement. One of the biggest things that could help recruiting is for folks to show up, and we seem to be stuck with a core group of about 400.

There was so much to be excited about Wednesday night. The squad looked incredibly balanced and unselfish, and there seems to be lots of options deep into the roster. Coach Norton could play two platoons easily with very little drop off.
Maddie Walsh looks like she’s done tons of work offensively and defensively in the offseason. Denim DeShields and Desiree Ware play great defense with their feet as well as their hands. I can see those two and Walsh (with her great length) forming the backbone of a formidable fullcourt press.
Also, Lyndsey Robson battles like a warrior. She’s got a lot of fire in her.
I’m big-time pumped to watch this team develop.

ALSO, I hope lots of people come to Saturday morning’s breakfast/practice/meet and greet/Q&A/autograph session with the ladies at the practice facility. It’s going to be tons of fun. Here’s a link to register:

Also, join the 3-Point Club! Lots of great incentives to support these ladies:
