Ohio U after their coach left, 2nd year to the MACC
For people who are against A football coaching change! Ohio U had their coach retire after 16 seasons, and 4 MACC appearances! In his 2nd season he has Ohio U in the driver's seat after destroying Buffalo last night 45-24! If Creighton left, or is let go, why could we not have the same success? We're currently 5-4, and 2-3 in the MAC, with 3 very weak opponents on our schedule! 1-8 Akron, 3-6 Kent St, and 2-7 C Mich! So, 8 wins is still very possible though!

Amen. Let's stop being scared of what is out there. Find the next guy to move us past 6-6 and a bowl loss. Program is in a good place where the next guy isn't starting from shambles.

it would be objectively hilarious if ohio dropped their last three games. lets wait until the season is over before we make any grand announcements. ohio also barely beat an FCS team this year.

I really don't get this line of reasoning.

The new coach inherited a very good program and is now 9 - 12 (7 - 6 in the MAC).

Did I miss the parade last week in Athens???

The Sagarins have Ohio at #101 and EMU at #115. So what???

In the MAC on any given day any team can beat another in conference play. There's a lot of parity in MAC football this year. That is why we need to be up for every conference game. I agree let's wait until the end of the season and see where we are.[/align]

And, EMU currently is in A very good spot! But, if by year 10, the coach can't get you to the MACC game, or win the MAC West, then A new coach starts to really make sense!

I disagree with your analogies.

C.C. took over a situation more akin to Akron now than Ohio.

Akron is going through a revolving door trying to right their ship.

The Ohio coach took over a very stable program headed by Solich for what 16 years.

Ohio was very fortunate to get a very well regarded P5 HC. Solich was 33 - 15 in conference!!!

The chance of EMU getting like that is about the same as an ice cube surviving during summer afternoon in Phoenix.

I am in favor of keeping CC, but do believe he should bring on a sharp OC to manage the offense (including play calling). This would allow CC to focus on the areas in which he has been incredibly successful...such as maintaining a high level of integrity in the program, providing a vision for the program, building a reputation for the program, and recruiting, while also allowing him to focus on the 40,000-foot view of the program and push his coaching staff to successfully manage the details. Basically, to be a head coach.

The chance of EMU getting like that is about the same as an ice cube surviving during summer afternoon in Phoenix.

EMU would likely have to take on
1.) a reclamation project fired from a P5 school
2.) an unproven assistant from a lower-tier P5 school willing to take what they'd pay
3.) an FCS/D2 coach looking to make a mark.

I'd personally only pull from option #3. Someone like Ryan Carty at Delaware (but I doubt he'd ditch his alma mater like that).

The only coach with EMU ties who comes to mind is Kalen DeBoer and he's not taking this job anytime soon. While the program has been stabilized, this is still not a thrillingly-attractive job. This program's identity is embodied through Creighton - hard work and community. The worry is that those go out the door with him. I'm personally not scared of regression on the field under a new hire. I am scared of risking the recent stability of this program under someone unfamiliar to the historical struggles of EMU football. Plus, most other openings this year would be more appealing aside from our upcoming non-conference schedules.

The stands aren't filling up with a new hire. We'll still have issues getting students to games. The athletic dept. needs a stable program in order to invest in stadium upgrades. We've seen the long-term plan. That all goes out the window when talk restarts of the program dropping to FCS.

This would be my preference as well. Keep CC as an anchor and refresh the staff. Having coordinators who are later wanted by bigger programs is a good thing. Hire some good football minds from lower ranks and lean into talent development on the coaching side. This program isn't going to be the next UCF or Boise but can be successful long-term if it can find a niche.

Ohio is:
@Miami
@Ball St
BGSU

None appear to be easy wins.

Dear Friends,
If, and when, a new head coach is to be hired, I agree with hiring someone who is a head coach. Go back and look at the assistants that were hired to take over the head job here, and most of them were abject failures.
Even our present head coach was hired because he was a head coach, and he has brought us respectability. So, please no more assistant coaches hired to be head coach.

To keep with this analogy:
OU hired from within. What coach on the staff would you promote?

Sam Sewell seems like a rising star but too soon for head coach. Muir Prince maybe.

I was going to say Sam Sewell on our staff! But, Ohio U did it, why not ask Bryan Harsin or Scott Frost! They both did incredibly well at Boise St, and UCF! And, like Solich got millions to be let go! You never know unless you try! Harsin, or Frost would take EMU football to the top! Game Above could pitch in.......

Good call. Actually won a National Championship at Minnesota St as interim coach I believe. Believe he was OC and TE coach here.

Ohio U after their coach left, 2nd year to the MACC
Keep CC. Any talk of dumping him now is ridiculous.

Like others have said he does need to make adjustments to the staff though. Higher a up-and-coming OC and DC. CC can then manage the program and mentor the coaches. I think Sewell is the coach that spoke via Zoom during the season ticket holder event in august. That guy had a little fire and energy. When Neathery spoke it was very ho-hum and not very enthusiastic. If he's like that around the defensive players it's easy to see why they may seem uninspired during a game.
