WJOX text: Bill Clark, Garrett Riley, they will still seriously consider Vincent.

I was hoping they would throw some interesting names around, but that was a pretty tame answer except for Garret Riley - who I did not expect.
He was the former SMU OC/QB and current TCU OC/QB.
TCU definitely has a modern offense and is undefeated.

I had actually thought about Riley. TCU's been solid, with an offense that can not only score quickly but has been proven capable of coming back from behind if necessary. UAB could use a dose of that.

You don't leak interested names during the season, not if you want anyone else to talk to you before the season is over. We're just going to have to be curious for a few more weeks yet.

That's why I wish we had some Underdog Dynasty or The Athletic folks trying to figure out some candidates and just put out some articles.
They made articles about possible Charlotte candidates, why not us?

RE: Possible football candidates
That's a good interview, thanks.

"1819 News: What is the time frame you expect to make a hire?

Mark Ingram: You look at the early signing period and it’s about getting in front of that by let’s say a couple of weeks. I wouldn’t want to put a date on it, but, knowing that you would like to get at least a couple week in front of the (early signing day), ideally. So, that way, an announcement could be made and recruits that are committed to us get excited and still want to sign or, potentially, and I say this in their favor, every kid needs to make the decision on what they feel like the best fit is for them."

First day of early signing is December 21.

Good read

No names but you can at least do some deductions from there.
Seems like mainly current or former college head coaches with maybe a sprinkle of coordinators in there. Also seems like he is surprised with some of the people interested which is a good sign.

So he is interested in current head coaches or a former head coaches who are now an assistant and are a person of integrity.

I have no problem with his criteria.

Skip Holtz. I don’t know if Mark is interested in him but I bet Skip is very interested.

RE: Possible football candidates
I'd bet that some names that would surprise us have had their agents reach out. I'm as curious as y'all are. It's just still too early in the season for someone who is currently employed to want anything to get out.

There aren't many coaches who won't walk into Protective and think to themselves "Yeah, I can work with this."

RE: Possible football candidates
...well I'll throw a list, in no particular order:

Gary Patterson
Tom Herman
Scott Frost (recapture the UCF era?)
Kenny Dillingham (OC at Oregon - has local 'roots')
Mike Shanahan (OC at JMU - NFL roots, but a 'name' hire)
Ty Helton
Charlie Strong
Bryant Vincent
Skip Holtz
Derek Mason (DC at OkSt currently)
Shawn Clark (App.St.HC)
Jamey Chadwell (CoastCar HC)

...fire away... 05-stirthepot

I want an offensive minded coach. An ACTUAL offensive minded coach. I can’t watch any more of the “defense and run the ball” scheme. Having to watch this team then watch the exciting Dolphins offense on Sundays makes me dread watching our games more and more each week. So damn boring and predictable.

I don’t think Shawn Clark or Chadwell would come here. Dillingham would be an interesting choice and probably first for me from this list.

Also, I think that Mike Shanahan is a very different Mike Shanahan than the one you’re thinking of lol.

..yeah I guess my 'overview' there is a few decades behind on that one 03-drunk03-lmfao - but the ACTUAL dude seems to have JMU going pretty well - And their HC Curt Cignetti would be a candidate, just no 'local' ties, but not sure if that should be a deal-breaker...

most likely... some on that list have been 'there and back', and might be ready to jump back into the HC spot... Scott Frost might be a more viable candidate than one would think - I think Nebraska is pretty 'broken' as a program - they haven't been the same since the Big 8 broke up... Frost knows the Florida recruiting area...

Don't think you are getting an existing head coach from the Sun Belt. It's not a big enough jump from the Belt to the new AAC.

I think Justin Fuente should be interviewed.

Agree about Fuente. Already had success at a similar school in Memphis.

Herman should also be approached. I think Chadwell will stay at CCU and wait for a P5 offer but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm hoping for a current or former HC. Just like UAB basketball, our football needs better than another on-the-job training experience. Ideally it would be someone with experience getting a G5 program in the top 25.

I'm glad Ingram seems to be targeting candidates with head coaching experience.

I want a winner, I don't care how much HC experience he has. I have always liked a 50/50 mix. I also have no problem with a run first mentality if the play calling is mixed differently. Throwing the ball all over the field is fun if you are winning. Not if you are losing. Sucks to score 40 and lose.

It is important that we support this current staff and get these guys into a bowl for the Seniors, and make any transition as smooth as possible. Sad that we have fans bailing.
