RE: FCS Playoffs
That bracket has Samford as a #5 seed and W&M as a #6. The article implies that this is due to strength of schedule (although Samford is not ranked higher than the Tribe in the polls). I don't know why Samford's strength of schedule is listed at #18 while W&M's supposedly is #50. Samford did play Georgia (and lost, of course, 33-0) but their only other "good" games are Kennesaw St. (who turned out to be meh this year), Furman, Chattanooga, and Mercer (their next game). The margins of victory for those were 10, 7, and 11 respectively. The rest of the Southern Conference is crap. They played Tenn. Tech from the OVC and beat Wofford, Western Carolina, Citadel, VMI, and ETSU in league.
I think Richmond, Delaware, Elon, Rhody, and Charlotte exceed the Samford resume. Towson is playing well now and Campbell was playing well back when we played them. I guess we can assume that Stony Brook, Lafayette, and Hampton dragged us down (although they are no worse than VMI, Citadel, Wofford, or WCU).
If this bracket turns out to be accurate then I would argue that Delaware really got a great deal. Play St. Francis (NEC) and then Holy Cross. Undeserved largesse. In fact, Holy Cross barely beat Bryant this past week.
Tribe fans should root for Mercer to beat Samford and for North Dakota to beat North Dakota State (who look surprisingly vulnerable this year; or maybe they are just bored playing these meaningless regular season games while waiting for the playoffs to begin). Also Montana over Montana State. If Samford, Mont. St., or NDSU lose then W&M (if we beat Richmond, of course) could jump up several spots in the seedings. Top 4 is ideal because that guarantees two home games. But, yes, GOTTA BEAT RICHMOND FIRST!!
