Though the alleged suspect seen in video images shared by Hobbs’ campaign has not yet been identified and what reportedly happened is still under investigation according to the police, it didn’t take long at all for the Hobbs campaign and the Arizona Democratic party to, without evidence, blame Republican nominee Kari Lake for what they say happened.

“Let’s be clear: for nearly two years Kari Lake and her allies have been spreading dangerous misinformation and inciting threats against anyone they see fit. The threats against Arizonans attempting to exercise their constitutional rights and their attacks on elected officials are the direct result of a concerted campaign of lies and intimidation,” the Hobbs campaign statement read in part.

Not surprisingly, Kari Lake herself has responded accordingly by saying what many on the right thought upon first hearing the news about the alleged break-in, suggesting Hobbs is trying to pull off one of the oldest tricks in the book with less than two weeks to go before Election Day.

“That is absolutely absurd. And are you guys buying that? Are you really buying that? Because this sounds like a Jussie Smollett part two,” Lake told CNN reporter Kate Sullivan after she was asked about the allegation.

Lake then went for the jugular, making sure to weave into her statement the fact that Hobbs won’t debate her. “I can’t believe that she would blame my amazing people or blame me… I don’t even know where her campaign office is,” she said. “I’m assuming it’s in a basement somewhere because that’s where she’s been campaigning.”

When asked by another reporter about Hobbs’ charge, Lake did not back down:

“She’s trying to deflect from her own abysmal campaign and the fact that you know, nobody even knows where her campaign office is,” Lake said when asked again about the incident. “The person who broke in probably didn’t even realize it was a campaign office. It’s really sad. And the fact that you guys are running with this story, shame on you.”

Though RealClearPolitics shows the race between Hobbs and Lake as close, the last three polls taken indicate a clear momentum shift to Lake, with even one Democratic pollster showing her up by four percentage points (outside the MoE) and the most recent one, a FOX 10/InsiderAdvantage survey, showing Lake up by 11.

Democrats and the mainstream media have consistently tried to make this race about Lake’s association with former President Donald Trump, her supposed “election denialism,” and her unconventional way (read: non-politically correct way) of speaking to people, explaining her positions, and destroying Dem/media-driven narratives.

Unfortunately for Hobbs and her defenders, Arizona has a rich history of electing unpredictable, unconventional candidates to higher office — and Lake most definitely fits that bill. And if the most recent polls are a reliable indicator, history could soon be repeating itself in the Grand Canyon State.

The Katie Hobbs Campaign HQ Burglary Drama Just Got More Interesting

The new details have also led some to trot out the “told ya so” card on Hobbs, considering the fact that the suspect is an illegal immigrant and one who perhaps wouldn’t have been here had Hobbs and her fellow party members not been so fanatically pro-open borders:

A federal immigration official tells 12News the suspect who allegedly broke into the campaign headquarters of Democrat gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs last week does not have legal status to be in the United States.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 36-year-old Daniel Mota Dos Reis is a citizen of Portugal who arrived in the United States as a registered student in 2018 and is now violating “the terms of his admission.”

Mota is “currently at-large for administrative immigration violations for failing to maintain his status as a registered student at an academic institution,” said Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe, a public affairs officer for ICE.

Mota was released on bond before an immigration detainer was issued, according to ICE.

To date, Hobbs has not retracted her accusation against Lake, and still has the statement up on her Twitter page blaming Lake. Kari Lake, however, made sure to let her followers know about the latest development:

The news of the immigration status of the alleged Hobbs campaign HQ burglar comes on the heels of reports that David DePape, the alleged assailant of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul, was also in the country illegally.

Republicans are using both stories as examples of what happens when dangerous Democratic policies are seen to fruition, something New York Republican gubernatorial nominee Lee Zeldin also did after he was assaulted in July during a campaign rally as he talked about how Democrat-led bail reform efforts had sparked a crime wave of repeat offenders in the state.

In the aftermath, Zeldin predicted his attacker would be immediately put back on the streets thanks to soft on crime policies supported by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, which is exactly what happened.

It will be interesting to see what she can actually accomplish as Governor however. Politics is a tough game, lots of promises up front, but very difficult to get those promises through the machine afterwards.

Good news! The police found no powder or harmful substances in envelopes delivered to Kari Lake's HQ on November 5th, following an incident the day before where a volunteer reported a envelope filled with vulgarities and powder which was put into the trash. Hopefully this means nobody's health or safety was endangered at any point, the only shame is that the first envelope which allegedly DID contain powder of some sort was disposed of and presumably won't be available for the police to track down the sick individual(s) responsible for justice to be served.

I think Kari Lake is a repugnant person with repugnant views, and I wish her nothing good politically. But she has every right to run for office and she and her supporters should not be subjected to terrorist threats for doing so, whether they were ever in actual danger or not. Campaigns should be focused on getting their message to voters in the days before an election and should not have to deal with terrorism that distracts from that purpose.
