my back pocket doesn't give a shite ... and watching Wheeler and Nola pitch is must see TV ... just like when the Bravos had Glavine, Smoltz, and Maddux...

Oh man, those were the days. How they only won one WS I'll never understand.

Agree on that and I rated Cox and Mazzone

They had great starting pitching, and starting pitching is what wins in the regular season. But they did not have great bullpens, and relief pitching is what wins in short post-season series.

Remember, they move Smoltz to the bullpen 2001-04 because they needed help there (and he was coming off an injury in 2001).

while I understand your point, one still has to score runs ... StL's BP was pretty good this year with three starters going 6+ most outings ... then our bats went ice cold against the Phils (yeah, mainly due to Wheeler and Nola) ... when ya can't score, ya can't win...

Not a fan of the lay off div winners have to endure while the wildcard games are played. Almost makes winning the division a disadvantage.

Eh. Most teams like the fewer games, no chance of losing the wild card round, and getting your starting pitcher staff aligned. Just because 2 of the 4 with byes lost doesn't necessarily equate to a disadvantage.

Agree, will have to see more than one year of data before forming an opinion. bye winners should have the advanatage having their ace go against the other team's #3 or #4 in game 1.

If this series started today or tomorrow, I’d say Philly wins. They have been absolutely on fire at the plate. Think the 6 day layoff hurts them. If Harper keeps hitting like ARod 2009 postseason, then Philly has a chance. Astros have the better pen. I do like Philly’s balance in lineup which makes it hard to match up.

I was pulling for the Padres. But after knocking out two 100+ win teams, they finally ran out of mojo. Good pitching will do that.

My most important take away and what I love is...............

A WS with NO Dodgers and NO Yankees!! 04-cheers

Maybe because they grew up 20 miles from Philadelphia and it was, basically, their "stomping grounds" as a teen oh, and, saw games at Connie Mack, the Vet & CBP?
(Also, The Spectrum & Kennedy Stadium)

Maybe?

As a Reds fan I'll root for the National League - Phillies. That said, I believe the Astros will win due to their pitching is better overall than the Phillies. Pitching wins chips...
