He got a concussion. Questionable for next week.

I’m very jealous of all you who are going to be at this game. Hopefully the atmosphere will be “electric”.

So I guess Finn didn’t get a concussion, but rather an injury to his throwing shoulder. Separated shoulder or collarbone. That may be even worse in terms of his likelihood of playing on Saturday.

Our QB is definitely out for who knows how long !!
More importantly, hope he recovers and there are no longstanding medical issues … You guys have players out ??
Regardless, we like to have everybody healthy, and here’s to a clean (injury-free) game and try to take it easy on us OK !! 04-cheers
Me and a few hundred Rocket fans will likely make the trip !!

Unfortunately for a couple years now there aren't any concession stands open on the visitor side. Sorry.

Yes, our starting RG has been out for a few weeks now. Our starting RB was leading the MAC in rushing, but two weeks ago dressed but only played a handful of plays then didn't even dress yesterday. On defense our starting DE is leading the MAC in sacks, and our starting LB and leading tackler (transfer from Michigan State) were both out yesterday.

No word on if any of them will play Saturday, and the way the program is about injuries we probably won't know until game time Saturday.

From my POV Taylor should not see the field again because of sacks and TOs. Myself and another poster wrote this after the thumping by NIU last week. Time to see if Austin is the QB for next season or hit transfer portal. As CC indicated , winning TO battle is crucial to winning game. Perhaps Austin will not TO the ball as much, is more elusive to avoid sacks and his 50 rushing yards make him an actual RPO threat. He does throw the ball like a javelin as 79 indicated.
Disagree. I think EMU needs both QBs to play. Their skill sets are completely different. Force opponents to prepare for both. Remember how well Powell played at WMU? That type of performance may be needed in another game.

Totally agree Nickle. There were times when the offense sputtered yesterday because BSU loaded the box and the QB wasn’t a threat to throw downfield. It seems like the offense is limited to zone read, slants, bubbles, and screens when Austin is in there. Powell can stretch the field and keep Toledo off balance.

You betcha. I love Austin due to his youth, but it is clear that he is not Mike Glass at this stage of his career. He just does not currently have that arm or for that matter the running ability that Mike had. Keep in mind that he is a much younger guy, however, and will only get better.

Powell has an FBS arm, and we truly need him.

Agree that Powell is definitely the better passer but he is sacked way too often and is seemingly TO prone. Has Powell beat anyone >= 0.500 record?

I’m not at all for benching Smith…I’d just like to see them both. They are so different from each other that they can make the defense uncomfortable.

absolutely agree with Bovine. We can win with both guys. Powell is a better QB, but playing Austin does 2 things....
1. Gives him experience going in to next year. Also gives the coaching staff an idea of if we need to add a portal QB or not.
2. Defenses won't know how to prepare.

Either way we are good with both. Both seem likeable and both provide a skill set that the team needs. You can't argue that.

This is not Wiegers vs Glass. Glass was overall a much better QB.

Powell and Smith each bring a different offensive approach that we can use.

NGL I thought that wiegers was beyond the better quarterback. You can not tell me that we would have beat purdue with glass. Wiegers would of won that bowl game, hands down.

Apparently today their coach said Finn's status for the game is TBD. Probably be the same thing for us with Evans/Howie/Ramirez/Kline...we won't know until game time.

Guessing you were sleeping during the NIU game.

RE: Game Week: Toledo
So tidbits from this weeks press release:

-Evans, Kline, and Ramirez are all listed as starters. They also were listed as starters last week and didn't play, but I have noticed that when a guy is injured they sometimes list them as a backup, for example Howie has been listed as the backup RG since being hurt. Drummond was also listed as a back up while he was injured, but wasn't listed as a starter before returning.

-Powell is listed as the starting QB, but of course he was last week as well.

So, not sure how much (if anything) we can read into any of that.

One thought I had about Kline and Ramirez was do we know they were injured? We all saw Evans get banged up against WMU and then was clearly hurt during the NIU game, I'm also fairly certain I saw him on the sideline at the Ball State game during the broadcast. I don't remember either of them getting hurt during the NIU game. Did anyone notice if Chase and Jose were at the game Saturday? If not I wonder if it was a COVID or discipline thing?

I liked Nate, he actually was the first P5 high profile transfer that we secured, and I will always thank him for that. I also appreciate Edified's opinion, though I vehemently disagree.

While we could certainly recall more games than NIU, but I think ironically, the Toledo game in 2018 was the "proof in the pudding", so to speak.

Glass started the game and staked us to a halftime lead of 28-3 before getting hurt. Wiegers took over in the second half and we won the game 28-26 when we deflected that Toledo two-point conversion in the end zone. Glass 28 points, Wiegers 0.

Nevertheless, Wiegers was a good quarterback but needed a far better O-Line than we had at the time. He also stayed healthy, something that Mike could not.

Ramirez did get banged up in the NIU game. He did go back into the game though.
