Glad to see that EMU scored 50-points in the second-half.

Looks like EMU has four solid scorers: Bates, Noah, Acuff, and Legsnd.

Heath needs to play perimeter defenders above the three-point line to force longer three's.

Definitely not. Maybe 1500-2000 range. Maybe this board was more pumped for his arrival then the general population…

To be fair this "game" is basically a glorified practice. I'm sure in the moment the players on both sides are wanting to win and all, but I'm sure most fans don't care about an exhibition.

It'll be more interesting to see what the crowds are like when the games starting counting.

Totally agree.

I saw some game photos and the crowd didn't look bad for a D-II exhibition game.

No it wasn't but the Bates cheerleaders on here where crying that there would be thousands! There might have been a couple of hundred. I must correct myself I didn't teach emoni at Lincoln but in Ann Arbor and only one day.

What game were you at? There were at least 1500 people there. It looked about the size of a crowd for a January Mac game. Not bad for an exhibition game on a Thursday in October.

Where I always sit. The bottom wasn't half full. Less than 100 students which sits 750. Also I still have my copy of the plans so I know how many each section sits.duh!

Interesting if someone missed last night's game they could have read Miggy's posts over the summer and figured it out: 3 perimeter scorers + Legend. PF is a question mark (that is why we hoped against hope for Johnson, the final piece of the puzzle).

Wonder how they came up with that? There were no tickets sold and there were no turn styles. Just walk on in and have a seat.

Agree. Should not announce attendance.

Edit: crowd looks like a good MAC game.

This was a good crowd, probably the most I've seen a game with (sicne I wasn't able to make the George Gervin game last year).

Young team with some major things to work on, but ohhh boy, they have some talent.

They counted season ticket holders there were about 100 for the pre season meeting. They also counted other season ticket holders that didn't show. I don't mind them over counting no big deal. 07-coffee3

RE: Game Week: GVSU (x-hbiition)
I think the Nickle and Super are right. The 2,487 attendance was probably the number of season ticket holders plus the normal bump up to attendance of the teams and workers for the event. No one was taking tickets, just walk in and pick a seat as Nickle stated.

I stand behind my estimate of about 1,500-2,000 range. Which is good for a weeknight exhibition game- especially as EMU has historic attendance issues. There were plenty of open seats and I would say the lower bowl was half empty (which seats about 2,800 I believe Super and Steve stated before). There were no lower suites used but there was a large contingency in the presidents booth.

That said, when I talked to the ticket office, they said they were sold out of the court side seats for the season (which Super noted had doubled to two rows this season) and season ticket sales were nearly doubled. So Emoni’s arrival clearly did sell tickets for EMU, just not in terms of full sell out the arena. Still 1,200 season tickets x $120 per = $144,000 for the athletic department. Plus whatever the court side tickets cost, Plus whatever increase concessions, you’re talking possibly $200,000 to $250,000 increased revenue for the season generated by one single player. So again… Thank You, Emoni!

I like the idea of more court side seating. I see it at NBA games, and while I don't think it is a good idea, personally, if the NBA is going to do it, so should EMU. It has a net positive effect on the feel of an event with crowd engagement.

In the NBA food servers walk along the sidelines during games which seems dumb. Just use those long time outs to serve or do between quarters or at half time.

Emoni seemed to play much better in the second half once he got on page with his teammates.

Acuff seems like the calming force on the team. Seems like a very steady player.

Legend was the player of the game though. I believe he had 11 points, 13 rebounds, and only two fouls. Very solid.

Great post! Captures this exhibition game and possibly the season perfectly.

I will also give you credit, because you have called out Legend Geeter’s potential first and for some time now based on his days at River Rouge. Hard to say if 13 rebounds will be a typical performance during the season since he is an undersized front court player for D1 standards. But a really interesting stat is that he led team with 4 assists… could be a really dynamic player.

RE: Game Week: GVSU (x-hbiition)
I think another intersting stat of the game is that Noah had 2 blocks in the exhibition. The kid seemed locked in and wants to win. But a couple issues I saw for Noah:

*Noah really did not look for his shot until almost the very end of the first half. And of course ended up with 22 points still. I am not saying to play selfish at all, but he does need to take more on his shoulders ALL game. It will be mutually beneficial for him and the team.

*Noah has a turnover problem. Not in the number of turnovers, but in the nature of the turnovers- they seem like unforced errors (loses his dribble or slips on his shoes or situational awareness)… Emoni seems like he is going to have this same kind of problem. I am probably being too hard on the kids, but they both can make the NBA but will need to try to eliminate these errors when the scouts are at the games.

On the plus side, I think Noah has really improved his court vision this year based on the scrimmage and now the exhibition. He actually avoided a turnover when he slipped on his shoes but managed to maintain the dribble long enough to spot a nice outlet pass. Had some other nice passes as well.
