Would they be able to designate LF as the primary tenant location, but have (many/most of) their matches at Protective?

...this would eat into the parking situation for the stadium, but there is a city block between Phillips HS and the 2121 Building which I think is used for 'overflow' parking currently... but is relatively level... howza bout a new soccer stadium there? Not sure what the minimum size requirement is, but 15-16 thousand would seem to be doable...

They gave the Barons love while they were playing there without the name change.

But that love didn't translate into interest in the Barons in Hoover. Add to that, there is nothing in walking distance around the Met to entice people to come see a team play soccer or baseball for a full season. Great location to hold an event for a couple of days or even a week. Not so great for three or four months.

It's not as bleak as it used to be. There are 2 or 3 restaurants, a coffee shop and an ice cream parlor all within walking distance now.

I wouldn't call that the same walking distance like the restaurants and coffee shops walking distance near Regions Field and Protective. And you can't safely walk to those places from the Met.

Brock's Gap Brewing is within safe walking distance from the Met. Very nice brewery and outside food truck/socializing area.

Is it across the street from the Met or like a half a mile away?

Edit: It's a six minute walk. Are there sidewalks leading to and from Brock's Gap to The Met?

You’re sure asking a lot of questions for somebody that wanted to come across as well-versed on the Met and it’s nearby accommodations.

I am well-versed about the area around the Met but it doesn't mean I know everything about the area. If you don't have anything to offer but a smart aleck response then go have a nice cup of STFU and keep it moving analyst.

I think so. It's literally right next door. Nice place and usually at least two good food trucks parked on site.

I was thinking as big as the parking lot is they could have dozens of food trucks out there for events.

No doubt. They could do what the Legion did at UAB's field x5. Enough room for lots of food trucks, live music, kids play area, etc.

Legion hosted their 1st playoff game in front of their largest crowd in their brief history last night. Unfortunately, they lost on penalty kicks in front of 10,000 plus fans.

Legion lose to Pittsburgh

Cool Legion vs. Pittsburgh
I was there last night. It was crazy! Better crowds than any home games we had this year 05-hide

Even fans were throwing items on to the field 01-wingedeagle03-lmfao

RE: Will there be a future fight for primary tenancy at Protective Stadium?
Interesting. I’m sure they’d find a home or build one here. But yeah there is a next to zero chance they’d get primary tenant rights of Protective. For one, the stadium was built in part because UAB pledged $40 million dollars to it. Legion was an afterthought for it. Also, UAB brings tons more fans and national attention to the stadium. BJCC want to sour that relationship and lose out on extra concession and parking $?

I think they could find some abandoned industrial facilities near Avondale that could be torn down to accommodate a soccer stadium quite well

Does anyone know what the cost of PNC Field was?

I just read Louisville's stadium that opened in 2018 cost 65 million and seats 11,500. I don't know where the city or the team gets that kind of money to build a stadium and I don't know the other options are.

I find it fascinating that a crowd of 10,000 announced, of which there
is very little interest beyond the diehards, is deemed amazing, awesome, spectacular, great for the city! Yippee! Hurray!

But UAB consistently draws much more than that and eh, nobody cares. Worse that that, let’s crap on it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad the Legion are in Bham and seem to be building a nice base of support that seems to line up very well against its peers. Kinda like the Blazers.

Same thing happened with Iron and Stallions games.

Initial construction was $1.5M, then Legion put another $7.3M into expanding it and 3 years renting it at 350k a season. So total just shy of $10M. Think Legion is upset that they sunk the money into redoing that stadium instead of building their own "erector set" setup somewhere else. They could have done it for that ballpark amount.

Yeah no. People constantly **** on soccer in this state. We've been out there tailgating for Legion and had people stop by and ask us what it was for. As soon as we said it was for soccer they'll snicker and they keep on walking. WJOX at least mentions UAB now and feigns interest. A team in a division 2 USA league, ranked #507 in the world, brought 10k people into a game and it was a blast. This isn't an either or thing like you're trying to make it for some reason. UAB and Legion can both bring awesome things to this town in the sports world and I'm going to continue supporting them.

I agree with that last paragraph so much. I don’t understand why people have to compare soccer and football in this country. We all know which one is more popular, and it’s not even a debate. But soccer is growing in popularity, and I’m happy to see it doing well inn Birmingham.

They put 7.3 million into it and just walked away from it? How is that even possible?
