Appears Wilcke is getting the starting nod.

I don't think it's a bad thing.. He's a young QB they're developing and while Jake Lange didn't exactly razzle and dazzle, at least we know we got someone who can just run the plays.

Heaven forbid we stick with what actually worked for a half.

RE: Texas State
When I heard Will Hall's press conference after the game there was no doubt that he's committed to developing Zach Wilcke to be the starting QB. His comments about Wilcke included, "he's going to be a great player" and "[Wilcke] is going to be phenomenal".

Will Hall's comments about Jake Lange included, "Jake ain't the most talented guy in the world, he'll be the first to tell you." He also commented twice about how Jake will be a great "coach" one day. I don't think those comments inspire confidence that he plans to make Lange the starting QB. The last sentence in the article Big Dub linked below states that Lange earned the role of "backup quarterback."

If Wilcke is the future, then I have no problem with him taking the lumps and getting XP. We will be better for it in the long run. It might be frustrating now, but hopefully he will develop and be really good the next few years.

agreed.... That kid is what 18? If he's the future, then put him in and stick with him. The team will be better for it a year or two down the road. We ain't winning nothing this year.

RE: Texas State
Limit penalties and turnovers, lean on the run game, don't put the defense in bad spots.

If Wilke is going to be the guy give him some easy reads and rollouts, also, we don't seem to do much in the way of play-action, but I could be wrong about that.

RE: Texas State
Wilcke was highly regarded coming out of high school. And with him being a true freshman it's not unexpected that he would have some down games while adjusting to playing at a new level. If learning the ropes this year results in him becoming an excellent QB next season, it will be nice to know we have him for 3 more years.

My hope is that the team can go at least 7-5 in the regular season and get a bowl invite (and hopefully win that). That would set the team up nicely for next season.

There will be a quick hook with Wilcke. If he throws a bad int or can't move the ball, he will be pulled. Hall will not sacrifice wins for "development" at this point. Nor should he. He is here to win, not have players practice during games.

RE: Texas State
They were dragging our receivers jersey. Still should not have been thrown to him on that int.
