Obviously not an all encompassing set of fan data, but still fun to look at.

RE: Updated Fan Map Based on Twitter Followers
I had seen a previous version of this but it's always interesting. Intuitively, the Bearcats' footprint makes sense. I believe it will grow for two reasons. First, record enrollments each year pushing toward 60,000 will grow our fan base organically from student interest. Second, the Big 12 will change perceptions about the competitive level of the program. I suspect the average Joe college football fan in Greene County doesn't see much difference between the MAC and the AAC these days, nor does he care. But UC consistently ranked, P5, and playing bigger brand opponents each week on national TV will begin to change perceptions; albeit slowly.
Look at Louisville, after years in the P5. That footprint is still relatively small, surrounded by IU and UK fans.

RE: Updated Fan Map Based on Twitter Followers
What's really striking to me is that people in NYC don't follow CFB at all. Queens County, NY is the 11th biggest county in the country and only has 2,192 people who follow any team's twitter.
A much smaller county like St. Louis City (with no home team) has over 12,000 or Mecklenburg (Charlotte) has 26,000. Fulton County (Atlanta) has over 68,000.
Even Boston and DC and Philly and SF and Miami are way above NYC.

Bolded, the significance of a road win last October at undefeated, top ten ranked, Notre Dame can't be overstated in terms of elevating UC's profile regionally. That victory, along with taking B10 Indiana to the woodshed two years straight, does wonders for regional interest and credibility.

I also think taking Purdue to the woodshed in 2013 and 2016 helped.
The farming communities in between Indy & Cincy (who rarely have twitter accounts & rarely show up on these maps) tend to prefer Purdue over IU.

RE: Updated Fan Map Based on Twitter Followers
- I was impressed with our numbers in Northern KY. Obviously UK is #1 but the number of UC followers was much better than it traditionally has been over there.
- Disappointed but not shocked by the Butler and Warren County numbers. Anecdotally when I am in West Chester, Liberty Twp, Fairfield, Middletown and Mason I see a lot of people wearing OSU merchandise and/or OSU decals on their vehicles. I think those counties have a number of transplants living in the more affluent communities, not to mention a lot of kids up that way do go to Miami U. so that explains the OSU fandom.
- I added the Montgomery County figure because I wanted to point out that it is stronger than anticipated as well. Dayton is very much Ohio State and UD territory, I was impressed with having nearly a 10% figure. If we keep on the current trajectory I anticipate more growth of a fanbase in the market.

I don't know how accurate these things are, but UC's goal should be to get to the point that they are no worse than 3rd in any county in Ohio. That will speak not only to our fanbase presence but also our alumni base and student recruitment base.

I wish UC had a campus of some sort in Warren County. UC Blue Ash is too close but still it would help.

I just moved out to that area and it's night and day between how people feel about College Football in the midwest. Or even their professional teams. Honestly the Yankees are probably the only sports franchise I consistently hear about. Though it has been cool seeing Sauce on some Jets billboards.

It looks like this is just measuring Twitter followers in each county. Probably not a perfect metric by any means but overall I think it's a cool visualization when mapped out like that. And it's relatively standardized by twitter data.

Funny how FCS North Dakota State dominates up north - getting second place way down into Minnesota, SD, and Iowa counties. Helps to be a consistent winner surrounded by dud FBS teams.

Good for John! A number of us here have been commenting in recent years about UC building a greater presence in the Dayton market. There are thousands of alumni between I-275 and I-675 that could be interested in engaging more too if given the opportunities.
Of course turning Wright State into the University of Cincinnati-Fairborn would go a long way in that regard.

That would actually be a pretty solid addition. The university as a whole is not on UCs level but the engineering and medical schools are fairly strong. Instant 60K students!
Plus it would go hand in hand with the "tradition" of UC's land locked campus. Probably even more land locked than Clifton
