Handshake Altercation
Did anyone else catch the altercation between Ham and their head coach in the handshake line? I apologize if this has already been discussed in another thread . Words were exchanged and it looked like Ham was pissed off and basically told him to F off. Not sure what it was about but the game was extremely chippy with lots
Of extra curriculars by their guys. I rememmber Them being a dirty team last year too. Whatever it was about- i personally Loved seeing Ham standing up to him and calling them out. That’s how organic rivalries develop . Eastern is a dirty team and we kicked their ass !

Go huskies

RE: Handshake Altercation
I haven't seen or read anything about it. Hammock was angrily laying into the EMU coach (Creighton) in no uncertain terms – it was obvious and even the announcers commented on it. I agree that some of the EMU players were being “chippy”. There was a post during the game about a EMU player twisting Waylee’s ankle after he tackled him (he did). Other than some cheap shots by EMU players during the game (which would be something that Hammock would be angry about) I can’t think of anything else that would have set Hammock off like that. Even if there is some bad blood between Hammock and Creighton for some reason we don’t know about, I wouldn’t think Hammock would lay into Creighton during the handshake after the game the way he did for that. I would think Hammock will be asked, but I doubt he’ll say what it was about (or what he said, presuming it could be repeated on TV or radio)! If it was because of the cheap shots, good for Hammock - gotta stand up for your players!

I saw Tucker and and EMU player exchanging some unpleasantries after Tucker caught a punt. Seemed a little tense out there.

Yes. I saw. Why was NIU running a play instead of kneel down?

EMU had tons of extra curricular activity after the whistle all game. I blame Creighton for not getting his players under control and the refs for allowing it all day. NIU was all class and kept their composure. Credit to Hammock.

RE: Handshake Altercation
Hoping to get some clarity on this at some point too but I'm not going to hold my breath.

What I saw while watching the game, Creighton and Hammock came together and "shook hands". While it seemed like voices were raised, it was hard to tell if there was anything behind it because they probably have to talk loud anyway to hear one another down there.

But, what caught my attention, one of the NIU assistant coaches was right next to it and whatever was being said, got his attention and he just stood there, looking and listening. It was an odd move and I immediately keyed in on him and his focus of attention.

Then Hammock started to walk away and Creighton didn't let go of his hand and said something. Hammock responded directly, withdrew his hand and then wagged his finger in Creighton's face as if to say "no more" or "I'm done with you (or this conversation)".

Obviously Hammock was PO'd as he was walking away and kept looking back toward Creighton and kept saying something and gesturing him to basically "fvck off". The camera stayed on Hammock so I have no idea how Creighton was responding but it was pretty clear that something/someone was keeping Hammock's attention but he was intent on getting off the field an into the locker room (which was 100% the right move to make).

He made his point and didn't act the fool and start something that would get anyone in trouble.

We'll possibly never know what it was about but Hammock made his point and, whether he accepted it or not, Creighton heard it.

Hammock’s the man — gained a lot of respect for him, and I liked him before too. He wanted that game badly, and so did his players.

If our players were chippy, maybe they should have focused their energies on not getting their asses kicked?

Dear Northern Huskies,
You support your team, and that is good, but please don't come off here as sanctimonious as to what happened on the field. I left early because Eastern was getting whipped, so I don't know what may have happened between our coaches, but again let's not be too quick to assume who was right or wrong in whatever may have transpired.

I only caught a glimpse of the very last play but I’m pretty sure Ham was pissed they sent an all out blitz when we were obviously killing the clock. We could have easily closed out the game with points but they let up out of respect. Eastern did not.

Again, I only heard the last play so I could be wrong.

It was a strange game. NIU's offense went all Wildcat formation and were pretty dominant. On defense our guys actually covered and tackled!!!!!! I wasn't sure I was watching our game.

strange game.

How about we can act how we want to act and YOU don't come HERE and act sanctimonious?

Okay?

Great.

I dont think anyone is acting holier than thou but Eastern Michigan was playing dirty ALL game long (it was especially obvious to notice all the chippy play on TV). I also remember them playing like that last season too. It is what it is and our coach called a spade a spade to Creighton. I was Happy to see that. Go Huskies

RE: Handshake Altercation
Regarding the handshake, what I thought I saw was Hammock pointing at opposing coach and (reading lips) saying, "That's Bulls!!t." and then repeating it and walking away. I assume he was referring to the EMU player sacking our QB on the last play.

I don't know that it was "BS," since the QB didn't immediately take a knee. But I am glad he was upset. He should be. We are on our third string QB as it is. We can't afford another injury at that position. Celebrate the victory. Rest. And then get ready for the next one!

Yeah, I went back and watched it to see how they played it and I'm not sure why we weren't taking a knee. There was 20 seconds left and even with EMU having 2 timeouts remaining, I don't think they were going to use them and, even if they did...who cares?

There was at least one and as I recall two unsportsman penalties on EMU defensive players – so, the refs saw some also. This is not the first time EMU has been accused of playing chippy; the game that comes to mind is the 2021 EMU/Wisconsin game. https://247sports.com/college/wisconsin/...170812527/

Those things have a way of following a team. With Hammock being a graduate assistant in 2003-2004 and a coach in 2011-2013 he has a strong Wisconsin connection. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hammock remembers the 2021 EMU/Wisconsin game and made him sensitive to how the EMU defense was playing.

We have a solid recent history of wailing on EMU. Must have been very aggravating to still take a beating on a rare up year for them, and a rare down year for us.

NIU is 18-3 versus EMU since 2001....

You think that we get upset, and his team even won:

I could be wrong, but my sense was that Coach Hammock was upset about the extracurriculars and decided to let Lynch run the zone read to see if he could score an FU touchdown on the last play.

Ken Barna is a good fan, by the way. He's a long-timer like many of us geezers.

If he was really worried about being on our 3rd string QB, he should have just had Lynch kneel down right away, IMO.
