Jim Boeheim says success measured by NCAA tourney, takes shot at Big Ten
God Bless Jim Boeheim… The last true coaching legend

"At the end of the day, you play for the [NCAA] tournament," Boeheim said Friday at his team's media day. "You can say what you want about the Big Ten. They sucked in the tournament. To me, that's what they did. All of their wins were in their league. If you can't play in the [NCAA] tournament, then you're not good."

Was not he supposed to retire? What prompted him to trash talk?

I expect he'll retire this or next season. Trash talk or truth?

I mean sometimes I wake up in the morning and want to trash talk on these boards, I suppose coaches get the same urge.

Jim Boehiem and Syracuse are a NCAA tournament team and coach. Syracuse is built for NCAA tournament runs not the actual college basketball season. Majority of the time when Syracuse is defeated in the NCAA it usually a fellow ACC team who is familiar with the orange. Jim boehiem know how to coach a ncaa tournament game really well imo.

He's not wrong.

The Big Ten HAS sucked balls in the NCAA Tournament.

And ... the ACC was taking sh!t from all comers last year ... UNTIL we dominated in the big dance.

The NCAA Tournament defines programs/conferences.

The sad reality is it isn't about how good you are on the field or court. All that matter is hierarchical status, TV ratings and revenue. The B10 is at or near the top of the mountain because there are 50+ million people in the Midwest who watch Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State (FB only), Michigan State, Wisconsin and Illinois (hoops) and get a "thrill running upside their legs". I live in the Midwest and I hate those people, but its the truth.

Well while that may have some truth to it ....

I'm pretty sure people like winning championships. Even in the Big Ten. That's a pretty big deal, and it's not fake.

Michigan State is the last Big Ten school to win a national title in 2000. (Maryland won in 2002 as an ACC member).

5 different current ACC schools have won 9 titles since then ...

Duke 2001, 2010, 2015
Syracuse 2003
North Carolina 2005, 2009, 2017
Louisville 2013
Virginia 2019

Boeheim is right. The Big Ten sucks balls. 04-cheers

You would think, yet the haughtiness lingers with these people. I was at King's Island this weekend with my kid's and there happened to be a lot of people from Indiana there as well. Guy wearing his Hoosier hat in line in front of me on a coaster snorted at me about UC football and remarked Indiana was "a basketball school". I asked where he had been the past twenty years and he seemed oblivious to my comment.

FWIW - expanding the NCAA Tournament probably helps the ACC financially more than any other conference. ACC programs have the best overall record in the NCAA Tournament and the ACC always has a lot of “bubble” teams.

This past year, UVa and Wake were relatively close to getting bids. In a 96 team tournament, even Clemson and Syracuse would have likely made the cut. In 2021, Duke, Louisville and NC State would have been considered in an expanded field.

It appears that Power conferences are not breaking-away from the NCAA or D1. Therefore, the discussion is starting on how to maximize Tournament revenue.

80 or even 96 teams could work

Ha ... Hoosiers are idiots.

I am not surprised you had that kind of interaction.

I'm a die-hard Louisville Cardinal fan. I also went to school at UK. I thought there could be nothing as obnoxious as a UK fan. Then I moved to Indianapolis. Holy hell. Hoosier fans take it to another level.

When you brag about the size of high school basketball gyms, you know you are a special kind of moron.

When you take seriously the High School All Star game series between Indiana and Kentucky, you are a special kind of moron.

But I guess that's all they have. They certainly aren't getting anything from IU hoops.

Let me ask you this .... Should we even really count Indiana as being Big Ten?? As the losingest P5 school in football they are clearly not a football school. (Exhibit 1 - snorting at you with your Cincy Bearcat Football shirt. Duh. Clearly oblivious to football) A self-proclaimed "basketball school", they've resorted to celebrating Sweet Sixteen appearances this century. So are they even really a basketball school???

RE: Jim Boeheim says success measured by NCAA tourney, takes shot at Big Ten
At this point in time, I think not only is the ACC superior to the B1G in terms of the NCAA basketball tourney, but it appears even the B12 has surpassed them.

Using the 2015-16 as the demarcation point in the sport when the last major conference realignments for the P5 slowed down (with Louisville joining the ACC) -

Here are the numbers that I have

Total Number of Teams for the last 6 tourneys -

ACC - 44 (15 team conference) - edited because I forgot to include ND - I did say below my mind is on football
B1G - 44 (14 team conference)
B12 - 39 (10 team conference)

Sweet 16 teams for the last 6 toureys -

ACC - 21
B1G - 14
B12 - 14

Elite 8 teams for the last 6 tourneys

ACC - 12
B1G - 4
B12 - 9

Final 4 teams for the last 6 tourneys

ACC - 6
B1G - 2
B12 - 5

Champions

ACC - 2
B12 - 2
Other 2 championships were won by Villanova from the Big East

I apologize in advance if there are errors in the above - my mind is 90% on football which as an Orange fan is a new experience at least over the past 3 years prior to now.

04-cheers
Neil

Let me ask you this .... Should we even really count Indiana as being Big Ten?? As the losingest P5 school in football they are clearly not a football school. (Exhibit 1 - snorting at you with your Cincy Bearcat Football shirt. Duh. Clearly oblivious to football) A self-proclaimed "basketball school", they've resorted to celebrating Sweet Sixteen appearances this century. So are they even really a basketball school???
