I take this as a positive but I'm not certain we'll know exactly what we have this season until we see this group play. I hope it could be third--or higher but it's very dependent upon new players stepping in and providing a lift from last season's woes, especially in conference games.

I think that is as much an indictment of the rest of the conference as it is an indicator of our supposed talent. This conference outside of Houston is BAD right now.

Bolded, it really is. How many "new" conferences produced a national champion (UCONN) and a Final Four team (Houston) in a nine year existence? Yet every season it's seemed to be a dumpster fire in terms of NCAA tourney qualification, bad losses out of conference, and a scant number of ranked contenders. Good riddance to the AAC.

And a vacated title by Louisville in 2013

So, did someone have Houston and Memphis tying? How can it be unanimous if Memphis received 1 first place vote?

I was a bit disappointed in last year's team. They were only slightly better than Brannen world, really.

If coach (not Sean) Miller gets us back to where we should be, third sounds about right.

So Tulane has one pre-season first string player and two second team but they are picked to finish fourth behind us (only one second string player selected). Does that make sense?

Their big question is beyond the top 3. Their top 3 is as good as any top 3 in the conference.

I was looking up UC head coaches first 3-year records when I saw this "Cronin resided in Anderson Township in the Cincinnati area with his daughter Samantha. He also has a son named Carson. Both are 16 years old. He was married to Darlene Taylor until they divorced in 2009.

Never heard he had a son before. Samantha was always front and center. And both are 16?

Unless the kid is 100% estranged and off the radar I don't think there is any legitimate source out there that verifies he has a son.

Wikipedia says: Cronin resided in Anderson Township[35] in the Cincinnati area with his daughter Samantha. He also has a son named Carson. Both are 16 years old..[7]

The footnote it references, however, ( "Mick Cronin". University of Cincinnati Athletics. Archived from the original on December 27, 2019.) only mentions Samantha under children.

Houston is being talked about as having FF potential.

Memphis…. It’s always an issue of hardaway coaching making the talent level better instead of worse.

Third sounds promising…

I never doubted Houston would be very good this season but I didn't envision that team as #3 in the preseason. The "new" B12 is well represented.
The Big East puts two in the poll but it's hard to predict what Villanova will look like post-Wright. And I question whether Creighton will have staying power in the top ten.

Wes Miller is fortunate to have this season to ramp up recruiting and demonstrate veteran player development/improvement from last year to set the stage for the rough and tumble of Big 12 play one year from now.

the most impressive thing about the coogs is that they yearly lose one of their best players at the start of the season and are even better for it

Who would envision better? They vastly overachieved with their 2 best players injured?
