RE: Baseball Fall Ball
Texas Jr College baseball, esp @ San Jac, is probably better than 60% of the D1 schools in the country. Many reasons for guys to go Jr College route.
Left after Shaw pitched. Through 5 innings (IIRC), SJ's pitching looking better than UH did last weekend.
Then UT got to the 2nd tier guys.
It will be interesting to see what UT does this year. Lots of holes to fill.

Yeah, I very much doubt UT will be in the preseason Top 10; more like 15 - 20, at best. Stanford, Ole Miss, Vandy, Louisville, Texas Tech, TCU, A&M and several others are all loaded with proven, returning stars.

Final score in that match up of powerhouses - UT 16 - San Jac 3.
The horns really step it up tonight facing the always fearsome McLennan Community College.

RE: Baseball Fall Ball
Maybe it's just me, but one would think a thread on fall ball on the Rice fan site would be mentioning Rice fall scrimmage scores first over other teams?
Rice won 18-13 over Houston Christian on Sunday at their place (the Rice field wasn't ready yet). Here's a recap of that game.

Not sure which schedule you're looking at, but I think they're doing intersquad games rest of this week.
They beat San Jac in 14 innings 24 to 1. David Shaw, our lost Owl, gave up the one run. Bringing it back home for Fort Bend Owl.
(FWIW, I enjoy watching D Pierce coach. When the parking and admission is free and the weather is nice it isn't a terrible way to kill a couple of hours.)

It was a Fox 7 Austin story, the first to pop up, from this time last year. Good to see the horns making progress vs San Jac, 16-3 in 2021, not 24-1 in 2022.
So, by FBO's rules for the Parliament, the Moderators should close the Coaching Carousel thread. It's not like Rice is going to fire a football coach mid-season.

Indeed! Welcome back Wayne!
Looks like a good turnout.
He and Tanya did attend a midweek game at Reckling this past season, and he was in very good spirits.

Any final thoughts on Fall ball? Who looked good (pitchers, hitters etc.). Hopes for the spring etc. How did returning pitchers look etc. Any recap would be appreciated.

Since we only started playing at The Reck last week, there's been very little info. They're holding the Fall Ball World Series this coming Wednesday - Friday, and I hope to catch at least one of these intrasquads. Parker Smith, who will almost assuredly be one of our weekend starters, saw his first action of the Fall last week. He's not injured, but was held out due to innings pitched this Spring and Summer. Unfortunately, Brogdon's injury woes continue. His return does not look promising. Ditto Caleb Matthews. The transfer from ULaLa (Durke) has impressed. I also understand there is talk of converting Linskey into a starter. I question that move unless he can develop-- and have confidence in-- a couple off-speed pitches to compliment his fastball (which he has in past thrown over 90% of the time).
