RE: New Jersey Technical College vs Cincinnati Game Thread
I guess football season is over and its time to start caring about basketball.
I watched the game, but just can't care a whole lot about what happens against NJIT.
Probably not Bryant either, on an NFL Sunday, or any other non-conference game, since an NCAA invite doesn't seem likely.
Looking forward to league play starting. Those games will all matter.

Honest answer. They do. They only gave up 4 offensive rebounds last night. They're top 30% nationally in defensive rebounding percentage despite being undersized in the front court and not having any tre Scott type elite rebounder. They've had one bad rebounding game (against osu) but have rebounded well on both ends other than that.

Bryant is going to be a battle.

The Bearcats win but I think they need to play better!

This was not a fun game, but at least they won.
DeJulius went off, as he does against these awful teams. He took some bad shots, but he made a bunch of rhythm jumpers too.
Nolley was sleepwalking. He induced I think 3 fouls by pump faking and then jumping into the defender. Stuff that won't work against anyone good.
Lahkin was playing hard. He was too skilled for these guys. His problem is still that he picks up really dumb fouls. He could have fouled out had the refs called a few close ones.
First time I think I ever saw Wes get mad at a Davenport 3. He sat for like a 10-minute stretch jn the first half.
Ezikpe barely played. Looks like Ody got his minutes. Probably the right call but not a good development, if that makes sense. Ody does play hard at least. Skillings is super active. Phinisee, ugh, he's not good but he made a few shots. Hensley was a ghost.
The press is really bad, and they gave up a ton of wide open threes out of it. I don't understand how they are sticking with it. Bryant apparently plays fast as hell. Interested to see how we gameplan for them.

It was solid number-wise but kind of quiet. They didn’t shoot a great percentage from 3 and they didn’t get their first dunk until Lahkin had one with about 7 or 8 minutes left in the game. Not a ton to get very excited about despite the margin of victory.

I was there and it was a very boring game to watch. I'm looking forward to Davenport graduating and not having to watch him do nothing but stand behind the 3pt line and wait to jack up ill-advised bombs. I see another butt kicking coming in the crosstown!

Just getting his numbers down for when he goes full fire against Xavier
My exact words texted to my son last night while watching. It seems every year X has some unlikely stiff go off for double digits against UC. Maybe the basketball gods allow Davenport to even the score this year and redeem himself with 30 points in a UC victory.
Seriously though, I watch this team and for a few minutes they'll actually look like a team out there--high functioning on offense and defense. Just as quickly, they lose that and just appear helpless and hopeless on both ends of the court. Wes did call a timeout last night in the second half when the lead was being frittered away and there was immediate improvement which was encouraging. But I couldn't begin to predict future performance based upon the season to date.
