Mixed feelings on this. Varsho is an absolute stud - had a great year.

OTH, Moreno has a higher ceiling, and his timeline fits better with the rest of the system.

man this is something.

Well respected crew chiefs Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Tom Hallion, Sam Holbrook, Jerry Meals, Jim Reynolds and Bill Welke are among the group to hang up their chest protectors while Marty Foster, Paul Nauert and Tim Timmons will join them in retirement as well.

Question RE: 2022-23 mlb Hot Stove (offseason) Thread
Owl Brave!

Braves acquire reliever Lucas Luetge from Yankees for 2 minor leaguers

Quote:Luetge, 35, posted ERAs under 3.00 while pitching in at least 50 games in each of the past two seasons with New York. The left-hander was 4-4 with a 2.67 ERA and two saves in 2022. He had 60 strikeouts in 57⅓ innings

Let's see if he can stick. Braves have done well in handling their relief corps the past several years.

How much earlier are team’s respective “truck days”?

As a Jays fan, I was bummed to see Moreno be sent in that trade. Was hoping it was either Jansen or Kirk instead, but I'm sure the Diamondbacks valued the upside of Moreno, which is no doubt higher than the other two. Excited to get Varsho though.

It may well hurt them more than help them this season, but it's been a long time coming...

RE: 2022-23 mlb Hot Stove (offseason) Thread
so I was listening to MLB radio the other day and they were talking about the shift rules.

They brought up how most of the time the extreme shifts happened with no one on base. Makes sense. So I looked.
with no one on base was only .235. babip was .285.
with guys on base, avg was .254 and babip was .294.

if no one on base climbed like that, would be a game changer for sure. Especially with the new rules in play this year for 2 throw overs etc.

and drilling down to lefties who see the shifts obviously more- with no one on base, they batted only .227 with a babip of only .275. 10 years ago, same situation they batted .249 with a babip of .296. 5 years ago when shifting was just starting to go up it was .250/.295.

Pitchers and Catchers report this week.

This is always the week or 2 that I get most nervous on- seems like you always hear of pitchers who get hurt right away and ultimately need TJ. Hopefully none this year.

Why do you worry if pitchers want to pick up some two buck Chuck and almonds?

These weeks are when a lot of pitchers throw off a mound for the first time. And problems often times ensue.
