Excited for this week's matchup with Kent
This will hopefully be the great heavyweight bout it appears to be. Kent has put some great numbers and appears very balanced, capable of going to the air or ground, depending on the opposing defense. 306 yds passing against Miami, 398yds passing and 338 yds rushing against Ohio, 353 yds on the ground against the mighty sharks, and a 164 yds on the ground against Oklahoma. Vegas has the game as a 7.5 to 8.5 point spread with Toledo as the favorite, and an over/under of 60. The defenses could keep this game in the 20s, but if either side or both sides find weaknesses to exploit, this could be a very high scoring game. Kent will be Toledo's strongest opponent since going to Columbus, and it will be a great measuring stick of UT's progress

If we win to a 2-5 opponent means we havent beaten anybody right?? And NIUs 8 pt loss to Kentucky was actually the 7th ranked team? And Toledo is only a product of a bad coach when we lose, and SOS when we win?

Back to reality. Of course Kent is a top half team in the MAC. 6-6 is probably their basement. An improved D, with slightly down O without Crum. Also a team racking up penalties.

Kent, UB and EMU is appearing to be our toughest stretch in hindsite. Ball State also playing hard and figuring out how to win.

So, when Toledo drops a game or two or more in conference because we won’t go 8-0, and Candle comes out looking weak, uncertain, like he usually does, are you still going to throw cheap insults to the rest of the fan base because you’re the only one who still believes in Candle or will you finally just take a step away and realize that if Candle was that good of a coach in this weak of a conference he would have 2-3 conference titles by now

The MAC is the hardest league to win on a consistent basis. 7 schools in our league fight for recruits in Ohio alone.

Over the past decade the only school NOT to make a MAC Championship appearance is EMU. Thats it.

I will absolutely eat and chew some crow. But some of the people on this board are negative NOW after two blowout wins. Im not looking forward to a loss like many are. Its possible as hell. But by the numbers we have the highest win expectancy in the league by over a full game.

Teams RARELY go 8-0 in the MAC. Many of the NIU teams who were viewed as nationally relevant and the team we all wanted to be still dropped one to CMU or Buffalo even in the one year. You gona tell me 7-1 or even 6-2 Paired with a trip to Detroit is poor? Thatd put us at 8 or 9 wins and a ranking around 80th (RIGHT WHERE WE RECRUIT).

Our mindset should be conference relevant. Being in the top 25 just aint gonna happen more than once in a blue moon with 3 star loaded rosters ranking between 60th and 90th on the trail.

Reality? NIU is ranked 118th with a strength of schedule ranked 108th. They had a great game in Kentucky, but that loss may be their highlight of the season. Kent State is a much better team than NIU, and these are the type of games that Coach Candle needs to prove he can win.

RE: Excited for this week's matchup with Kent
I remember when I was a freshman living in the dorms, they used to say” if can’t go to college, go to Kent”. They were really terrible in both fb and bb and then there were the Kent shootings…which was very sad! Somehow over the years they have really improved. I think in the US News ratings they are one of the highest rated MAC schools. I think only Miami, Buffalo, and Ohio u are higher ranked.

We definitely don't want to overlook them. Agree, NIU was awful and CMU isn't too good either. This should be an interesting game.

At the least. We are still a large favorite against Kent. Beating them doesn't add credibility. It's what is expected. Fans have short memories and they may well react well to a MACC. But I think it would be too fragile. He's not deliverying what was bought.

Coach Candle I think will need win a few upsets to get the fans back in the fold and I don't mean against MAC opponents. He was paid and expected to RAISE the program to a national prestige, not the best of the bottom ten.

Yeah after the OSU drubbing, I have given up on top 25, Boise St run dreams. Conference titles and maybe a 10 win season would be good enough for now, especially in the age of NIL’s

Right. Throw in the new transfer privileges and the inequitable distribution of TV money. I remember a brief chat with a guy down at the GMAC Bowl in 2015 and he commented, "I think y'all oughta jist have yer own division and stay in yer lane." It looks like he got his wish. The P5 conferences do not want to risk a loss to G5 schools and the NCAA has capitulated.

I don't think this is a down year for the MAC. Sadly, I think this is the new reality.

Right. I don't think this is a down year for the MAC. Sadly, I think this is the new reality.

Interesting how in the NIL and Portal age that MAC bball recruiting has picked up while football seems to be slipping a bit. Maybe, it's because bball has so few spots that with the P6 filling in a lot of transfers there's more marginal P6/mid major guys available. Maybe, the run of mid major bball guys having success in the NBA adds to it.

Kent football is solid. Lewis has done a great job. They have a specific style and are fundamentally solid. Not overloaded w talent but they'll bring their A game. Liked watching them against Georgia. They were in that game the whole way. Don't care about the spread just want to see us win a close game for a change.
