RE: BAMANBLAZERFAN
Several years ago I made a visit to B'ham and posted a lunch invite for Dreamland. Granted, it was on a weekday, so most of y'all had to work, but Carl was the only one who showed up. RIP BNBF. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to buy you lunch.

I spent years ridiculing his screen name, but he was a true gentleman and retaliated by making me fetch his drinks at Blazertalk gatherings over the years. And when it was time for fight for #TheReturn, he fought.
We are less without him.
Agreed. I thought the abuse he often endured here was unnecessary and disrespectful. I always had respect for him. Good man, IMO.

Just now reading about this, and this news really saddens me. I never met the man, as is the case with most of us here, but I always admired his courtesy and dogged persistence while debating subjects.
He almost always displayed civility and good character in his posts. He certainly is missed. I wish him true and everlasting peace.

Back in the dark days of Watson Brown, practice was open. Somehow he and I gravitated toward 3ach othe and became friends. Ironically I never knew his last name, so I couldn’t chase him down like Brother 58-56 did.
I got aggravated with some of his oddball posts, but I stayed pissed at folks who were mean to an old guy who had been here since they were taping ankles in the back of pickup trucks.
Most of the people I know on here are folks I met hanging along the fence at those practice’s. Y’all are a great bunch

Yep, there were a bunch of us regulars hanging around the fence, trying to teach WB how to coach, hehe.

I talked to him about those people, during a period when some were especially vicious. Ever the Southern gentleman, this was his reply:
Quote:May 26, 2017
Thank you for your kind note.
I am not about to let anyone censor my opinions just because they don't agree. I taught innercity teenagers for 35 years, and if I had let their ideas of what I should teach them affect me, I would not have lasted that long. I try to stick to facts (I cite my sources) and give my thoughts on topics that some find disagreeable. I refrain from name calling as some do, but that is part of my educator's training.
Don't worry too much about my feelings as I am too old to let those who wish I would just shut up and not bring up painful truths (as I see them) that need to see the light of day. I lost my first marriage in 1980 and my oldest daughter to cancer in 2012. Now those were painful. A few telling me not to bother them with stuff they don't want to deal with doesn't carry the same weight.
Yours, Carl (aka BAMANBLAZERFAN)
He will be missed, for sure.

Hell, I remember half a dozen of us standing along the sideline with Roddy White split wide standing 20 feet away. Including you, IIRC.
Carl was a great Blazer fan. I think he was a lonely old man without too many people to talk to, and he got some relief of that here. Yeah, he took some abuse later on from folks to whom he was just a screen name who posted gassy old repetitive posts. I imagine a couple of people are feeling a little guilty, but he took it in good part.
There was more than one practice and spring game where he latched onto me and talked my ear off.
Rest.

I do believe that’s where we met. Not sure I’ve seen you since 5he NCAAs in Philly when Anderson was coaching

I know I met AB and Blazer Dawg at a couple of scrimmages when Byran Thomas and Eddie Freeman were playing at UAB. My gawd that defense would lay the wood on our offensive guys in practice.

Likewise. Hope we get together again one of these days.
