Surprised we haven't heard of any players saying we have offered them that are in the portal.

I think we can be patient. Hell, most of the Colorado team is going to bounce. I mean, they were terrible, some I bet they could find spots here.

plus I don’t think he was allowed to “offer” until today right? Or is that not the rule for this thing anymore.

Everyone is tampering before the official open season. As to what I understand the portal is just an opportyuinty for players to say they are open to transferring and not a restriction as to offers. Many FBS guys and others were committing last week. The portal for those of us who are out of the loop this open period Dec 5th - Jan 18th and the next is important because we will know who is leaving and who is staying. Whoever we are looking at is completely unknown. Our transfers that arrive are usualloy unkown and it just announced they are going to NIU. The P5 schools have extensive "scouting" departments looking at players and evaluating constantly.

100% true, back channel communication all over the place. Kentucky is supposed to be hot for Marques Cox, I would wager someone reached out to him a while back and said hey, if you were to go in the portal......

Does a program really have to do anything more than have their position coach suddenly start to follow you on Twitter to let you know they’re interested?

Yeah. He’s ok, he always looked awkward to me, but played solid.

The portal is loading up with players today. Glad hammock is being patient. But I need to see some progress.

I'll take it. Those kids are PAC players. Offer every single one of them a home, since it seems like every single one of our players is bouncing. The Transfer Carousel lol.

How do you get defensive transfers to come here? What can you even sell them on? On the offense it’s easy. Rocky and a decent O-line is attractive for any O skill player. But what DB would want to get torched in a NIU secondary each week? Maybe you tell a LB or a safety he will have the opportunity to record 150 tackles? Or you tell a DE teams throw on us all game so you get to pass rush a lot? It’s a tough sell

It is quiet, 7 posted a list of guys that we might be reaching out to, or vice versa. I have only heard 1 name, an OL…

So maybe I am getting discouraged- but it’s literally day 1 of this window. Hammock likes to scout, scout, then send late offers.

So…it will be a curious window - would love Hammock to have everyone in DeKalb by semester 2.

We will be very active in the transfer market. Who knows who/how many we end up getting, but they’re going to target multiple positions.

Read an interview with Mack Brown the other day.

Mack Brown:
"I sat down and had lunch with one of our starters the other day, and I said, 'Are you getting calls?' He said, 'Coach, I've got 15 places I can go.' He said, 'I'm not going anywhere.' I said, 'Are they offering you money?' He said, 'Yes, 100 percent.'

It’s a complete free for all now.

I guess, but I feel like half the schools will be selling that. At least to the halfway decent players. I’m just hoping Ham doesn’t have to take guys who no one else wants.

This staff has been pretty good with getting good players in the portal. Coming off a 3-9 year with a coach who is on the hot seat now may change the equation a bit, but I’d be surprised if we don’t have quite a few transfers in.

However, let’s say big schools are now saving some scholarships for transfers - thus ignoring the higher 3 star recruits. Those kids would come here and turn in to pretty decent players by their junior or senior years.

It’s a zero sum game guys, more transfers means more high school kids ignored. Imagine if we could develop players? We would be set.

But also the transfers will help us. Let’s say we snag a corner from Norte Dame, maybe who played a bit, was a higher rated recruit than we normally get, comes here and makes the defense solid. That would be a nice get. So I am curious to see how this shakes out.

TH can literally promise the kid to start on Defense and it would be an upgrade. Find a couple guys that showed they can play at a P5, but couldn't beat out the starter and offer them. We're in the MAC and they will be better than most in this conference.

Ester, O'malley and Brown are the for sure 3 guys and maybe Rayner. Besides that should be open. I have faith that Devin Layfette will bounce back better next year with a year back playing this season unless the injury permanently slowed him down, which I doubt.
