However, I was at the Clemson game and they went toe to toe with the #1 team in the country. We saw what happened when football played Georgia last year. Some sports will never come close to competing at the highest level nationally. Soccer has also played 4 top 25 teams and wake forest who is the new #1. Basketball is starting to make a name for themselves which makes me rate them as the best current UAB program and with Andy Kennedy in place the future looks bright. Womens soccer, with all due respect, plays a lot of low tier programs so their success is relative. I also think baseball is moving up and will be able to compete with top level programs once facilities are upgraded.

UAB was outshot 16-7 and out corner kicked 7-1. These are strong indicators of how a game played out. From what I've seen, UAB will not take the game to anybody, and they look to eek out a 1-0 win somehow. There is nothing fun about that style, and it will hurt recruiting long term. I would love more than anything to see this program get back to where it once was, but it is currently a disaster.

Exactly. They pack the box and hope for defensive mistakes/fluke goals. If they fail to make the C-USA tournament for the 6th or 7th straight season, we should see a new staff.

Samford is not a lower tier ladies soccer program. They were in the Top 25 earlier this season. Beating them was big for UAB. Plus, the UAB ladies program has to contend with 4 other strong programs in this state: Bama, AU, Samford, and USA. ALL FOUR of those programs made the NCAA tournament last year. AU and Samford both started this season ranked and Alabama is now sitting at #5 nationally. The UAB men are not only the sole D1 school in Alabama, but there aren't any in Mississippi or Louisiana either!

UAB women's soccer is finally getting noticed by in-state ECNL players and have a commitment from Ava Mills, one of the top players in the Southeast in her age group last year. They also have a former state Gatorade PoY on the roster in Morgan White, a transfer from South Alabama. Right now the UAB soccer ladies are in First Place in C-USA. When was the last time that could be said for the men's team?

Isn't soccer in the AAC this year?

I want every UAB program to do well and I’m happy for the womens team. But just to clear things up the mens team is in the AAC this year so they definitely won’t be making the CUSA tournament. The AAC is currently rated the second best conference in the country behind the ACC. Not many teams can say they’ve played 4 teams in the top 25 including the defending national champions and the #1 team in the country.

LOL. That's right. So they'll have a new conference tournament not to make! Scheduling top teams is great but UAB mens soccer needs to WIN SOME GAMES. Does Kinney have an 8 year plan for success? Here are his records so far on the Southside: 3-12-2, 3-12-1, 2-12-1, 2-6 so far in '22. One of this years wins was versus Queens College plus tack on a 7-0 exhibition loss to Lipscomb. The program has become an embarrassment. It is the worst athletic team on campus. As a UAB mens soccer fan for over 30 years, that makes me sick.

UAB's womens team is still in C-USA for this season.

We’ve played 8 games and have 7 goals. We beat a 3-2-2 Charleston and a team that’s new to D1 soccer. Queens is 1-6 for what that’s worth. Those two games account for 5 of our 7 goals. Wisconsin is not good, Mercer is not good, FAU is not good. I’m not sure what the 4th top 25 team is, Charlotte is obviously the third. UAB soccer used to consistently schedule like this and at least go .500. The fact is we can’t compete with these teams right now, and that’s not where UAB soccer belongs. It’s quite clear to me that we need another change.

Exactly, thanks. Plus, putting down the ladies team considering the competition they face in this state is just ludicrous. Can you imagine recruiting against four in-state programs coming off NCAA bids? The coaching staff and the players are doing a hell of job.

I believe that would be tonight's opponent...Tulsa.

I would argue basketball has a standout national athlete right now.

Absolutely. In my head I was thinking professional athlete - but I didn't write that.

Basketball is best positioned, I think that is obvious.

As to football, that is going to be highly dependant on what happens with regard to coaching, both Vincent's performance and the quality of the next coach hired if he is not retained
