No doubt the BIG12 is the best conference in the country. I believe KU is just out of gas right now. They only go six deep, and those top six maybe seven dudes have logged a lot of minutes through their first 18 games. They will still be a tough out come March, but I would not be surprised to see KU drop a few games between now and then.

Davenport has played less minutes, but has more 3 attempts than the 3 above him on this list. I thought he would take "better" 3s this year with Nolley in the line up, but that hasn't happened.

Still think he's more than capable of shooting a high percentage, he just needs to be more selective.

I think he has improved his shot selection this year, it's still not great by any means, but better than last year. The big difference is that he's missing shots. He's missing more on both the high degree of difficulty threes and open threes as well. It's hard to fix that.

Wes clearly still believes in him as a shooter, hopefully he can shoot his way out of the slump. His career shooting percentage is still second best on the team. We have three guys who are hot from three on the season (DDJ, MAW and Nolley are all shooting far better from 3 this year than they ever have in past seasons) and one guy who's cold. So I guess you could say it's just luck averaging out.

That's making a few assumptions that ...

1) UC is not going to get better.
2) Kansas may be vulnerable at times given that their go to guy is a freshman.
3) TCU is a team that lost to Northwestern State, so take it for what you will.

Ohio State, which looked pretty tough in Maui, just lost five straight in the Big Ten before winning yesterday. I think UC fans need to be mentally prepared for five game losing streaks in conference next season.

I don't say that to be negative about Wes or this program. I can live with that if we feel the recruiting and development are aligning with the level of play in the toughest conference in the country.

After all, reaching the P5 is what we all asked (and hoped) for the past decade while wandering in the hoops wilderness of the AAC. For us as Bearcat fans, we can be thankful that our University took care of business. But I do have some sympathy for Memphis today. Not enough for UC to give the game away but thinking of their plight now trapped in a conference that no longer includes UCONN, UC, and Houston. And really not achieving the success the Tigers have enjoyed in their pretty signficant basketball history.

RE: 2022-23 Bearcats Basketball Season Thread
is Hensley that bad that he can't get any minutes rn? Oguama's physical metrics are practically the same as Hensley. At this point, i'm interested in seeing if Hensley can give anything more on the offensive end without losing too much on the defensive end. We know what Oguama is and what he isn't.

I have to think Hensley is hobbled with some unreported injury. Like Oguama, he doesn't possess the full package of skills needed but he did show promise at times.

We continue to see what we should have expected: a team assembled mostly with players who lack the needed combination of size, strength, and basketball I.Q. to build a consistent winner. Hence, this team's best victory was against the Green Wave.

Hensley is likely transferring to a conference that better fits his skills. He's just not a high D1 4. We are getting what most figured we would when he came here from UNCG.

Honestly, between Oguama and Hensley, all things being equal health-wise, i would like to see more minutes for Hensley. i think they can both offer D and rebounding but Hensley doesn't take ill-advised shots. For whatever reason, Oguama will get shots up even though he's an awful shooter. Even worse if he's too timid around rim. i would endorse the minutes Ody gets if he tried to dunk everything instead of doing these cutesy layups that he bricks. But he plays so weak around the rim it's infuriating. Give his minutes to someone who's not going to waste possession with dumb takes.

You're right. Can't rebound if you don't play. i stand corrected.

When he's on the floor he has the worst defensive rebounding rate on the team. He rebounds a lower percentage of misses than David dejulius. His offensive rebound rate is half that of ody. It's hard to play him when he doesn't rebound.

Mark...you're a stats guy so it's not like i don't trust what you're saying. That said, i literally can't remember the last time Hensley played. On top of that, when he did play i don't remember him occupying the same role as Ody. For some odd reason, i remember him defending 3s and not 4s. i feel like Ody defends 4s and post players, which gets him in and around the rim more. Honestly, i can't recall with a ton of accuracy either way but looking at his game logs he isn't logging major minutes. And honestly, it's not like i'm on the Hensley 4 prez comm or anything. i'm just sick of Ody bricking shots. Give his minutes to Ezepike for all i care. i'm just sick of getting mad at Ody for his bricks.

On the topic of players giving us empty minutes, here's Josh Reed's numbers from the past 3 games:

31 combined minutes, 3 rebounds, 0-3 FG, 0 points.

He and Skillings really hurt them on defense against Memphis. It's a game where they really missed Newman. Once anyone not in the core six was on the floor, Memphis went after them relentlessly.

That's the area those two have to make a huge leap next year. They have offensive skill but it's hard for them to get in the rhythm and flow of the game when they can't stay onthe floor do to their defense

Bolded, I think Newman might have made a difference Sunday and at Temple. How huge would two more wins be at this point?

Regarding Oguama, if he would just make a few more of those shots at point blank range it would give this team an amazing lift. Right now, Vik is the only guy to be counted on for inside scoring on a consistent basis. Hensley shows some good basketball skills and instincts at times but doesn't appear to be physically built for banging in the Big 12. Maybe he stays and develops; maybe he transfers. Either way, I wish the best for him.

Bolded, that's the next big question for our program in my mind: do we have a coaching staff that can develop these guys season to season? They're both talented players and will be counted upon to play larger roles in B12 play.

Temple was (and still is) missing their starting center (who was averaging 11 and 7) for our match-up.

Memphis was missing their starting PG and talented back-up center for our match-up.

Just about every team is missing a contributor at this point.

Wes is capable of winning with the players we have.
