RE: Dodd: PAC in danger of eventual collapse as B1G considers further expansion

Former Fox Sports Networks Bob Thompson's estimate effectively placed Stanford as the 3rd most valuable in the PAC-10, at 17% below Washington, 12% below Oregon, 20% higher than Arizona State (who is not AAU), 50% higher than Cal, 67% higher than Colorado.

The Wall Street Journal is essentially the same. Of the remaining schools Stanford is only behind Washington, Oregon, and Arizona State. In the WSJ they are come 4th.

It's hard for me to see Cal getting an invite with those numbers.
Nobody seems to be suggesting the possibility that Kansas could replace Cal if the conference went to 20. I'd be curious to see what KU's numbers are. If Arizona State was AAU, they'd be another possibility to replace Cal.

If the B1G expands further in the near term, I really think it will just be Oregon and Washington. I think the remaining 8 schools, if they stick together instead of fracturing, could backfill and have a league still on par with the Big 12 by adding, say, San Diego State, SMU, and 2 of Hawaii (FB-only, also added Gongaza for non-FB), Boise, Rice, New Mexico, or UNLV. Playing at Hawaii would give 4 or 5 league schools the chance to play an extra game at home, adding schools avoids the awkward situation that would happen if CU has to go back to a significantly worse Big XII than the one it left while also cutting off any annual presence in California, which is key for their academic and athletic recruiting.

AZ state is a large school, and probably could become AAU with little effort.
That said, I've read several (seemingly biased) articles suggesting that the AAU doesn't want to add AZ state for other, non-academic, reasons.
So I dunno. I think we'd need more reporting on that to find out more information.
I don't know what Kansas's numbers may be, but they appear to be on some sort of improvement plan. I wonder if they were given criteria to meet, and they are working on them.
