Put into perspective too that City of Troy only has 19,000 people and Pike County has 34,000 total population.
What makes that even more impressive is that there are no major highways to Troy, except for US 29 if you can call it that.

Could potentially end up being our second sell out of the year.
Just goes to show the nature of our fan base. When we play an opponent that interests people, we put butts in the seats. When it’s not an exciting opponent, attendance is horrible.
Army - over 21k - sell out
GW - 13k
Buffalo - 13k
GS- already sold 20k tickets
Wish our fans just showed up for all the games. Guess we are a young program though.
Yeah, really close to selling out for GS. Hurricane Ian could potentially bring some bad weather for the game though, which will affect attendance.

They've always been that way, most schools are the same way, some real bad crowds in the years before Hud took over.
IF you count refs, concession associates, security, a 4.5 mi. radius around the campus, riders on the trolley on St. Charles and drunks on Bourbon St., you might reach 20K
Which section were you in? There was a good crowd of us in 115.
I was on ESPN+....the wife just had major dental surgery and is having heart palpatations (the bad kind) concerning the hurricane, even if ends up 1,000 miles from us.
All it takes is one. It's just a 20 mile wide tornado.

Ah gotcha. Hope your wife heals and the recent of Ian calms her down.

She's had a few medical issues that are more irritating than serious....and she says living with me for 30 years is the biggest irritation of all ...too bad she didn't live a circumspect and judicious life like moi!

To be fair, we played a road game in Houston the previous week and outdrew Rice fans. Unfortunately our 2 closest road games were back to back weekends. We haven’t played in Houston since 2006 and I think most fans picked that as their travel game.

I can see that. While Monroe is closer, travel timewise is probably about the same and probably much easier considering it is interstate. And there are a couple more things to do in Houston. At least that is what I have heard.

To be fair, you (not you specifically) lost to Rice and quit on your team.

Of course if we would have beat rice there would have probably been more fans in Monroe. We had back to back home games and a short trip to Houston then Monroe, followed by homecoming. Not everyone can go to college football games 5 weeks in a row. Also, Every game on our schedule is driving distance except Marshall. Houston, Tallahassee, Hattiesburg, San Marcos and Monroe…no offense but I don’t think Monroe would win many #1 destination votes and we go there every other year.

I can assure you in no uncertain terms there is NO offense taken.
For what it’s worth, we probably all had bigger crowds than what Miami will have the rest of the season. And bigger than UCLA has up until this point.
As for South, no more excuses, we are just a young program that has had minimum success until this season. Hopefully with continued wins, our crowd will grow. We are still trying to build a tradition of gameday that doesn’t include Alabama and Auburn.

Alabama and Miss'sippi is hit the hardest since we both have 2 in-state SEC programs gobbling up all the resources available in 2 of the poorest states in the nation.
U of A and Auburn's success casts a giant shadow over USA, UAB et al...and their fanbases are so entrenched it is hard to ever get folks in Mobile or B'ham to look at anyone else.
Now, in the Magnolia State (with more than a "meellion" less people than Alabama), OP and MSUcks claim to fame is basically "we're in the SEC and you're not." A lot of folks had only their love of Mary Ann Mobley and Archie Who to get them thru the trials and tribulations of the 60's and 70's and they will NEVER CHANGE.
Schools such as Boise and Utah, who have had a lot of success lately, have no idea what it is like to have 2 in-state SEC teat slurpers sucking the kitty dry. At least Bama and Auburn turn their advantages into victories, while OP and Misstake lives off their welfare, to varying degrees of "success".

If Troy and South Alabama continue to play well... I'd like to think you guys can sellout Hancock Whitney Stadium on October 20.
I've already heard that Troy is going to offer bus ride/ticket packages for Troy students to go to the game. And judging by how that's gone before, I'd expect multiple bus loads of Troy students, on top hundreds of regular Troy fans.
If you can have 31,000 for this 2016 game at Ladd-Peebles, surely you can sellout your new stadium at 25K... especially if a similar size Troy contingent arrives.

Now that’s a hell of a an idea to get students more connected and invested. Especially for those games within 4 hours of home.
If Amtrak can ever get their $hit together, a rail trip between Lafayette and Mobile would be a fun road trip. Tailgate on the train, sleep it off on the way home.
