This overturn was paid for I am sure. It's why I do not like playing this school, they play by a whole different set of rules.

I don't claim that Liberty paid anyone off. I'm surprised it was overturned as the play was reviewed and the call was confirmed to be targeting. Either way, it was a very late and unnecessary hit. I think he actually may have got lucky and hit the QB with his shoulder instead of his helmet, which is probably why they overturned it. (the hit isnt any better, but maybe not technically targeting) They need to have some progressive type of penalties (sit a game after 2-3 targeting calls?) because this player is a very dirty player that obviously has no regards for when or how he hits the offensive player.

Dialogue here so far has been observations about the game. Until this post. Any other nut kicks before we return to game observations.

Liberty fans coming to the ODU board to moderate it?

Nope, just a post of how the conversation was trolled away from game observations.

Probably some small bands of rain and maybe some elevated winds but nothing unplayable. We all have a weather app and that makes everyone an expert...including me. Selfishly, I would love it if the game was moved to Friday!

It's not just rain. Norfolk and ODU will be under water with the tides. Four days of NE winds, will really pack in the tides.

Weather Channel is currently forecasting thunderstorms for Saturday and Sunday. That would not be good.

It’s going to be interesting. I could see tons of flooding if it rains most of the day Friday and then the game doesn’t start until Saturday night. Big big mess.

Wow... I was way off! Not sure where you could push it though? Looks like poor weather from Thursday evening all the way thru the middle of next week. Prayers for our friends in Norfolk and the entire south-east.

Postpone it to a mutually acceptable date. I have no desire yo drive through flooded streets to sit in rain for 3 hours; I'm sure I have a lot of company in that feeling, too.

As an LU fan, I will fully admit that Rahimi is reckless. He plays hard and goes all out...great, but he also has cost us with senseless penalty's both last year and this year. The helmet to helmet hits need to be minimized and Rahami is consistently making the type of play that needs to be penalized. All that said, the call for targeting on Saturday was pretty weak. Late hit 100% but it was not ejection worthy.

Based on the link earlier, he led with his helmet and made forceable contact with his shoulder to the head of the downed QB. Its not the worst targeting offense of the year, but by definition, appears to be pretty clear.

Our only open date is October 8th and they have a game that day.

The only other potential dates would likely be this Thursday through Monday. This Thursday is probably out now so it needs to be played at some point between Friday and Monday, which looks like pretty consistent rain.

Have you seen the play? Even in just describing the play, it is impossible to not lower your head if your are going down to hit a player who is also going down. He clearly came in late. He also clearly tilted his torso up while lowering his entire body. Elevated his shoulder to eliminate the helmet contact. It should have been overturned if the play was kept in context / isolated. If you take his tendencies into play, Rahimi doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Yes, the game is available on ESPN+.

You can lead with your helmet but you don't have to lead with the crown of your helmet. Heck, most defenders are taught to see what you hit. He lead with the crown of his helmet and just missed the QBs head and hit him with his shoulder to the head. He immediately knew he was wrong if you watched his reaction and the QB immediately pointed out to the refs that it was targeting. It was reviewed and confirmed by the refs at the game. What could prevent it is not hitting a downed QB....

"Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area"

Im not sure how anyone could claim he didn't lead with his helmet (or shoulder) and make forcible contact with at the head or neck.

It's now +2.5 and 41

Fact of the matter is, every game I watch this is constantly debated, commentators disagree with refs and in game reviews all the time, and vice versa. On one hand, some fairly objective commentators for liberty said this was the worst targeting call they have ever seen. Others see it the other way. If in game reviews were sufficient they wouldn't have created this appeal process this year, but they did and they agreed it wasn't a good call.

And edit, I don't care either way, just wish it was less debatable

Now describe how it is anatomically possible to eliminate "Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow" as a defender when attacking a ball carrier who is also going low. Not defending Rahimi directly but rules cant eliminate football plays and natural movements.
