Or slipping in a pouring down rain and fumbling the game away this Saturday. Turnovers really set us back this past week, luckily we were able to fight back.

RE: Top 25?
There are 21 unbeaten teams left. 6 are unranked in AP (JMU, CCU, Kansas, Syracuse, TCU, and UCLA). 6 unbeatens play each other this week.

The loser of #5 Clemson / #10 NC State and #7 Kentucky / #14 Ole Miss will likely stay ranked (given Arkansa only feel 10 to 20 after losing to #23 A&M). #15 Washington might stay top 25 even is a loss to RV UCLA.

Without looking at schedulese of every team, and knowing that bye weeks will start popping up, I think JMU will need to be 5-0 (one of at most 17 undefeated teams at that point) before getting into the top 25 of the AP.

Coastal hasn't received any votes yet, though perhaps that will change.
Keep winning, and we do have a real shot at top 25 this year.

This is what Nerfherder was saying:
JMU got 4 votes in AP. Tulane the only other G5 with any votes.
JMU got 11 votes in Coaches. Coastal the only other G5 with any votes.

Don't forget Cincinnati. They're still G5 this year and now the highest vote getting G5 team. Currently 27 in AP and 26 in Coaches poll

JMU (3-0) went on the road and beat App. State. (2-2) yet are ranked #82 to App. States #24.01-wingedeagle

That is last weeks. The records are updated but the poll isn’t.

They still have Oklahoma at #5
Updated, we’re now up to #50 after beating App. State who was #24 (now #54).
MTSU is now #68, Coastal Carolina #41 and Louisville #58.

Its fun to look at and track, but CBS opinion is pretty worthless outside the press side of things.

AP Poll, Coaches Poll, and CFP committee rankings are all that really matter down the road.

CFP is basically a committee similar to the FCS committee, but is a little larger and slightly more diverse. Heavy P5 AD representation. Also has a MWC AD currently.

My guess is that we'll need to go undefeated through the Marshall game to break the top 25.

Currently "chief of staff" for the Temple HC. Wonder what that means in day to day responsibilities.

That guy has 9 lives and has long forgotten JMU. His wife hated it here as well. He didn't like our small town reporter. In addition, it was reported that we let him off the hook of $100k for his departure (no first hand knowledge of this).

fwiw, it sounds like many aspects of his time in Texas St was similar to here. He had a very adversarial relationship with their reporter also. I had listened to one or two of his press conferences there.

If Georgia Southern beats Coastal, I think we would break top 25 at 6-0 (assuming all that happened). Don't see Texas State or Arkansas State holding enough importance to get the votes.

I don't wish him or his family to be celebrated. Had he stayed just one more season, he would have ran this program into the ground. If anything, we should be thanking Texas State.
Withers did some nice things, but he nor his wife deserve any love from JMU due to the amount of trash they threw at us (especially our press) on the way out.
You get what you give.

RE: Top 25?
I think it's possible at 5-0 and a sure thing at 6-0. Marshall at 7-0 is too far down the line IMHO.

Preseason polls are P5 dominated and lazy voters just sliding winners/losers up/down means it is early Oct before preseason P5 bias is neutralized. There is likely some aspect of the P5 teams beating each other up in conference play after 3 easy FCS/G5 games to start the year.

Looking at last year G5 rankings:
Week 1 poll only had 2 G5 teams - #7 Cinn, #17 CCU.
9/26/21 AP poll had 3 teams - #7 Cinn, #16 CCU, #18 Fresno State.
10/3/21 AP poll had 4 teams - #5 Cinn, #15 CCU, #24 SMU(5-0 beating Abilene Christian, North Tx, LaTech, TCU, USF), and #25 SDSU (4-0 beating NMSU, Arizona, Utah, Towson)
10/10/21 AP poll had same 4 teams
10/17/21 AP poll had 5 teams - #2 Cinn, #14 CCU, #21 SMU (7-0), #22 SDSU (6-0), #24 UTSA (7-0).
10/24/21 AP poll had same 5 teams
10/31/21 AP poll had 7 teams

History says that by the time the Week 6 poll comes out there could be 4 G5 teams, incl. 2 that started unranked. After Week 7 poll last year there had been 6 different G5 teams ranked incl. 4 starting unranked. There are currently 0 and we are second.

Obviously things change year to year but I don't see the 10/17/21 poll having 5 G5 teams and the 10/16/22 poll only having 1 (Cinn). I could also be weighing last year movements way too much.

Add in the sh!t that voters got for leaving Kansas out and maybe a 5-0 JMU gets benefit of the doubt.

#21 CCU
#20 Syracuse
#18 Kansas

#19 JMU
SP+ and FPI rankings:
68th and 65th
Odds of reaching 11-0, per SP+ (JMU plays only 11 games in its FCS transition season): 1.7%
What they did in Week 4: defeated Appalachian State 32-28
Why they're ranked here: What a win. Down 28-3 against battle-tested Appalachian State, Curt Cignetti's Dukes held the Mountaineers scoreless for their final eight drives, scored the game's final 29 points and moved to 3-0 the hard way. A month into JMU's first FBS season, quarterback Todd Centeio is 22nd in Total QBR, and the defense ranks first in yards allowed per drive and 10th in points allowed per drive. Almost no program has been as well equipped to make the jump from FCS -- I wrote about exactly that in August -- but I still expected more growing pains than this!

I want Coastal and JMU to both be undefeated for the season finale. It could be the de facto league championship since we can’t play in the real one.
