California legalizes composting human remains

California will begin offering the option of human composting after death thanks to a bill recently signed into law that aims to tackle climate change.

The bill bans the combining of various peoples' remains unless they are related.

But it does not make it illegal to sell the soil that results from the process or use it to grow food for human consumption.

AB 351 will provide an additional option for California residents that is more environmentally-friendly and gives them another choice for burial,’ Democratic Assembly member Cristina Garcia, the author of the bill, said in a statement.
With climate change and sea-level rise as very real threats to our environment, this is an alternative method of final disposition that won’t contribute emissions into our atmosphere.

‘I look forward to continuing my legacy to fight for clean air by using my reduced remains to plant a tree,’ she wrote, noting that she herself may choose the method when she passes away.

As long as it is voluntary I don't see the problem.

They can just sweep the winos and bums from the sidewalk into the grass once they overdose.

I'll be honest here. I've got no problem with this. The funeral industry is a complete racquet and I've always thought that the traditional funeral process is pretty bizarre. It's disgusting to me. This is a much better use of the body and space. If that's how they want to be remembered more power to them. I get it.

Oh, she MAY choose the method. this doesn't tell me that she will. I'm from Missouri...Street, show me. Personally, I couldn't care less about Commiefornia and their stupid laws. Maybe they should put the bodies into a giant blender that way they can spread it much further.

Only thing California has done lately I approve of. Im a bit conflicted about using the compost in crops for consumption..but..I guess nothing really wrong with it biologically.

I bet Hillary Clinton is happy.
