If he lied, he needs to go. Then again, if we abolish every politician that lies, we won't have any politicians. Maybe that's a good thing.

But — and correct me if I'm wrong — McCain was tortured some during 5.5 years as a prisoner of war. Yet he still declined to accept the offer to be released from his captors, in part, out of respect for his fellow American soldiers. I will always honor the memory of John McCain for that alone.
We've got folks living in the greatest nation ever — on both the political left and right — who would never even volunteer to serve in the military (my soft self included), much less decline an invite to be released from hellish prisoner-of-war captivity.
Props to those who serve(d) — and particularly those who gave all.
I'm right there with you Bill, and I think that those of us who did not serve like you, me and all of our Presidents since HW Bush owe those who did a great measure of respect. Thanks to their sacrifices we have the opportunity to achieve a comfortable life in this country, and the freedom to bicker about sports and politics on boards like this!
Perfectly put, gamenole.
We are blessed to live in this wonderful country. And to think that both conservative and liberal men and women serve in the U.S. military and are willing to defend our freedoms and yet some folks in our society (including some on this board) slam seemingly all folks of either one or the other particular socio-political persuasion as evil ... simply sad.

The issue I have it is that having been in the military does not garner you any automatic respect and does not make you immune from criticism when you enter the public sphere.
McCain used his service as a weapon. He was gross.

This lefty finds Michael Flynn "gross" (your word and not mine) in many respects. But I still respect that he served this country and was willing to die for my freedoms and those of my left-leaning family members and friends.

Perhaps nothing about Trump's political successes has ever surprised me more than the fact that his candidacy for the GOP nomination was not swiftly ended by his comments about Senator McCain. Whether you liked his politics or not, McCain was a bona fide war hero. Shows just how fast and hard the GOP has fallen from the party of Reagan over the past 25 years. The GOP that was enraged by Clinton's avoidance of service in the 1990s would never have nominated anyone who made similar comments about a war hero like Bob Dole, for instance.
If NW Ohio chooses JR Majewski over Rep. Marcy Kaptur then the Buckeye State is truly lost to MAGA. I think she'll be fine though, she's the longest currently serving woman in Congress and has never received less than 55% of the vote (that was back in 1984).
That's not settled, many feel quite differently about him, many of them with first hand knowledge of his "heroism". You know, he wasn't the only POW in Vietnam, just one who happened to have some rank, celebrity and name recognition. He was the textbook definition of a RINO to boot.

This moderate, all appearances to the contrary probably, comes from a military family and I largely agree the sentiment of your statement but I would have to include "honorably served" to completely agree with it. I doubt I have to point out to you that many serve but not all serve with honor.

Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — Campaigning for a northwestern Ohio congressional seat, Republican J.R. Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing “tough” conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.
Military documents obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request tell a different story.
They indicate Majewski never deployed to Afghanistan but instead completed a six-month stint helping to load planes at an air base in Qatar, a longtime U.S. ally that is a safe distance from the fighting.
Majewski’s account of his time in the military is just one aspect of his biography that is suspect. His post-military career has been defined by exaggerations, conspiracy theories, talk of violent action against the U.S. government and occasional financial duress.
Still, thanks to an unflinching allegiance to former President donald trump — Majewski once painted a massive trump mural on his lawn — he also stands a chance of defeating longtime Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur in a district recently redrawn to favor Republicans.
Ohio GOP House candidate has misrepresented military service
I have no patience for anyone stealing valor. F this clown and anyone that would do such a horrible thing.

I believe that this story was bait. Somebody thinks that those of us on the right will react the same way as those on the left and try to excuse that behavior. Unless I missed it, I haven't seen any of that. If he did this, he should pay the price and nobody should vote for him.
