Perhaps nothing about Trump's political successes has ever surprised me more than the fact that his candidacy for the GOP nomination was not swiftly ended by his comments about Senator McCain. Whether you liked his politics or not, McCain was a bona fide war hero. Shows just how fast and hard the GOP has fallen from the party of Reagan over the past 25 years. The GOP that was enraged by Clinton's avoidance of service in the 1990s would never have nominated anyone who made similar comments about a war hero like Bob Dole, for instance.

If NW Ohio chooses JR Majewski over Rep. Marcy Kaptur then the Buckeye State is truly lost to MAGA. I think she'll be fine though, she's the longest currently serving woman in Congress and has never received less than 55% of the vote (that was back in 1984).

McCain was a war hero? I understand the logic behind the comment, just don’t agree with it. A hero is someone who takes specific action where they abandon their own self interest in order to protect their unit. It’s the guy who picks up the flame thrower and charges the bunker, it’s the guy who dives on the grenade.

McCain survived an intense personal test in captivity. That makes him a survivor, not a hero.

Thanks. I assumed you both were talking about Swalwell. 03-wink

So to answer the other question, this is actually worse. There's nothing I see to indicate that Feinstein knew the guy was a spy or that she lied about it.

Lying about military service is one of the worst things one can do, next to lying about having cancer...or at least it used to be.

You're entitled to believe what you want. But ignorance is no excuse for being a conduit to our enemies.

So....she should have known the guy was a spy...how exactly?

Maybe I misheard the story, but didn't they torture him for years to give up information on his country and/or fellow servicemen...but he never did?

Sounds pretty heroic to me.

Dude, she's a high ranking government official. If they did do a background check they were incompetent at it as that is the freaking purpose of a background check otherwise every senator would have a spy as their driver. Good Lord man look at what you are defending.

RE: Ohio House Candidate Lies About Military Service
I always love when stuff like this comes up. According to what we were told in the military, he is an Afghanistan War Veteran because he was deployed in support of the Afghanistan war and during the Afghanistan war. The only time you become a combat veteran is when you see combat.

While I do have a problem with him claiming to be a combat veteran (and of course, we dont know for sure if he was in Afghanistan or not unless we see his service record), I also have a problem with the AP not knowing what makes a war veteran.

Quote:A campaign ad posted online Tuesday by Majewski supporters flashed the words “Afghanistan War Veteran” across the screen alongside a picture of a younger Majewski in his dress uniform.

If you dont know what a war veteran is, then dont write an article claiming that someone isnt an Afghanistan War Veteran.

Fair point overall.

But if McCain's determination to survive 5.5 years of captivity — some while be tortured — has given American some inspiration and a greater appreciation for living in the most amazing country ever ...

... I would contend that could be considered as important as if McCain had been a hero in the conventional sense you note.

Good response. I lean left and will quickly admit lots of Dem politicians have been corrupt. And when I acknowledge that, I don't then counter by blaming all conservatives for not being quick to condemn corrupt Republican politicians.

When I hear "One side is intellectually honest and one is not" — from either a person on the left or the right — I just shake my head and feel sorry for the person who believes that (and there seem to be a good number on this board who take that approach).

How anybody on the left can assume all folks on the right are bad, and vice versa, ... just pathetic.

He's talking about sides... and you speak of 'you and others on here'. What you say on here makes zero difference to anything, Tom. Democrats continue to ignore the actions of their side while holding HEARINGS (and wasting time and money, but not political opportunity) for the other... and these 'comments' about how these people should be held accountable hold no water as a result. You don't vote for (m)any of those people so your comments are quite literally worthless.... and you don't pressure those you do to 'out' them. You didn't pressure them regarding the racist 'squad' comments.... yet you must have posted a dozen or more threads about random Republican (often state) house members who had speeding tickets or other such nonsense.

In fairness to someone who was a family friend (he was a groomsmen in my parent's wedding and my father's suitemate at the academy)... John did this and more. He was a/the ranking officer in the camp and often called to lead his men, often by example... if you follow me. He did so bravely and gave many of those men hope and courage, and often the will to go on. He may not be a hero in the Marvel sense, but he is certainly worthy of the term..... AT LEAST as compared to 90% of the others we call heroes these days. Apparently people who 'do their jobs' are now 'heroes'

Evidently a problem with the vetting process. Zero excuses. Just like ignorance of the law is no excuse for not following the law, there is zero excuse for her being a conduit for espionage. While I fully agree that the dick you reference in the OP should be booted and replaced with a different candidate over the stolen valor, I think it's beyond stupid to say that the Chinese spy scandals with Feinstein and Swallwell was a lesser offense than lying about your service record.

You may crow about "whataboutism". Okay, but my point about discussing these 2 people (note, I did not originally bring them up) illustrates a larger point concerning the MSM who will go to the ends of the earth to find GOP scandals while trying to bury or ignore scandals of the Democrats. This is my actual beef - not that the candidate in the OP needs to be defended, but the MSM refuses to treat both sides equally.

But — and correct me if I'm wrong — McCain was tortured some during 5.5 years as a prisoner of war. Yet he still declined to accept the offer to be released from his captors, in part, out of respect for his fellow American soldiers. I will always honor the memory of John McCain for that alone.

We've got folks living in the greatest nation ever — on both the political left and right — who would never even volunteer to serve in the military (my soft self included), much less decline an invite to be released from hellish prisoner-of-war captivity.

Props to those who serve(d) — and particularly those who gave all.

The issue I have it is that having been in the military does not garner you any automatic respect and does not make you immune from criticism when you enter the public sphere.

McCain used his service as a weapon. He was gross.

This lefty finds Michael Flynn "gross" (your word and not mine) in many respects. But I still respect that he served this country and was willing to die for my freedoms and those of my left-leaning family members and friends.

I just find him gross.

His willingness to sign up for paid employment doesn’t impress me.

I respect your right to not admire John McCain. He (like myself and all of us) had flaws.

Without knowing the EXACT vetting process, it's sort of hard to place blame on any one person or process. Of course it's bad to not catch them sooner, but they were caught. And I believe in both cases the investigations could not conclude anything was compromised. Of course, they can't know for certain.

Legacy media is the biggest root of all evil in the U.S. today for the mess we have. You expect politicians to lie, steal, cheat and misrepresent themselves and their positions. It's what they do in order to get an edge for themselves and their party. It's up to our "Fourth Branch of Government" to keep BOTH SIDES honest. In case you were confused, the guy is a douche bag for misrepresenting himself.

In case you were confused both siding things is always absolute BS.
