A CUSA team beats The ACC’s #4 ranked FSU in the remnants of Hurricane Isidore.
The first of only two times Louisville has ever stormed the field. Bobby Bowden refused to play Louisville again.
Paraphrasing Bobby at his post game press conference.
They get you up here in this little stadium (32K at the time) where they’re right on top of you and make it hard to play. We won’t be back.
Bobby was a great coach but a better man. He had the guts to bring his #4 ranked team to play a game in a no win situation. Louisville fans always respected him for that.
Bobby was true to his word too. He retired after 2009 season and Louisville didn’t play FSU again until 2014. UofL’s first season in The ACC.
No thanks, bad memories. FSU lost something like 5 games that year. That was a very a weird year, I think FSU played 13 regular season games. To cap off the year, FSU plays UGA in the Sugar bowl. FSU starts 3rd string QB Fabian Walker, gets hurt halfway in the game, bonus points: which star FSU player and future NFL HoFer finishes the game at QB? I’ll check back later.
The rain slowly got harder and harder throughout that game. A general soaking to the bone type rain. I was amazed that the field stood up as well as it did. The irrigation was totally tested that night for sure.
I had a raging fever of 102-103 degrees, and was in my seat, huddled inside my hooded poncho, at that game.
At halftime, my Dad turned to me and said "Son, you're sick. This game is on TV. You should go home!" I said "no way Dad!" .. He said "OK, I'm headed home".
After we pulled the upset, rather than go to either end zone for the pulling down of the field goal posts, I instead went to the 50 yard line, and did my best Andy Dufresne imitation, pulling back my hood, face turned to the sky, arms outstretched.
A fun game.
Kudo's to Bobby Bowden and FSU for fulfilling that contract.

Tirico what a clown. I think the Fiesta Bowl over Alabama was a bigger win by far. I actually vaguely remember that as a little kid because I liked the cardinal logo on the helmet and the adults were surprised by the score.
Also it’s amazing Schnellenberger never got the stadium expanded over 32k, with his dreams of Louisville being a national program and all.

If you want to watch the entire game.
Was that the old Fairgrounds stadium? You guys got Elvis is decommit from Cuse and that helped continue our downfall...it started with VT per$uading Vick's HS coach to get him to back off his verbal to Cuse when he got home from his recruiting trip to Cuse. He was set to replace McNabb.

But you guys got his brother (who we wanted too) Louis Gachelon (sp?) a pretty good D-Lineman or LB if memory serves. They had another half brother that played for us - Safety Curry Burns, known for hard hits in the secondary.

I think that was a typo .... it started out at 42,000, that could (obviously) be expanded.
(Although Schnelly never coached in the stadium. When we committed to play in the brand new CUSA, Howard took his pipe to Norman Oklahoma, and lasted all of one season after going 5 - 5 - 1. Ouch.)
Cardinal Stadium, formerly known as Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, is a football stadium located in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, on the southern end of the campus of the University of Louisville. Debuting in 1998, it serves as the home of the Louisville Cardinals football program. The official seating capacity in the quasi-horseshoe-shaped facility was 42,000 through the 2008 season. An expansion project that started after the 2008 season was completed in time for the 2010 season has brought the official capacity to 55,000.[5] An additional expansion project aiming to close the open end of the horseshoe to add 6,000 additional seats was announced on August 28, 2015, and was completed in 2019.[6]

Gotta be Anquan Boldin.
That's a good guess. I'm looking forward to the answer to this.

:coffee3:
It was Anquan.
Ding, ding, ding, if you guessed Anquan Bolden then you are right. Anquan had a good first half and was the only threat on offense. When Walker went down, so did any chance of FSU of winning. Anquan Bolden made a valiant effort, but he had not played QB since high school. Still one of the toughest guys to ever put on the pads. The 2002 season was his come back season, he missed most or all of 2001 with an injury.
