Unlike the entertainer Lawler.

You can walk into a physical brick and mortar International Sports Hall of Fame and find Ray Godman.

Would you like to talk legacy?

What has Lawler given the community? A few decades of exposure and noteriety, but once he's gone outside his membership on the hall you'd find it hard to find lasting evidence on his influence on the community.

How about Godman's legacy? In 1947 helped to form Memphis Rodders. Worked to organized the first official drag racing event at an abandoned air strip in Halls TN. Contacted a little west coast organization and helped them to expand their organization east of the Mississippi to eventually become and INTERNATIONAL organization known as the NHRA. Leading the Memphis Rodders he was responsible for purchasing property east of Memphis and constructing Lakeland International Dragstrip.

It was at this facility that competitors such as Bill Taylor and Joe Lunati engineered technology to gain an advantage. Those technical advantages eventually became aftermarket performance part industry. Giving jobs to hundreds of Memphians and providing the rest of the US products such as Lunati Cams and TCI torque converters. Then former employees decided to try their hand in the Industry creating companies such as Comp Cams

Today Memphis is one of the largest aftermarket performance parts hubs in the entire world. Pumping millions into the metro Memphis economy every year.

Without all the work and effort put in AFTER he lost the use of his legs in Korea, it's likely the aftermarket performance parts industry would not exist in the Memphis area.

So let's compare, billion dollar industry providing jobs and pumping millions into the economy, vs a bunch of YouTube videos and a BBQ joint.

Edelbrock has purchased all these as well as Holley and Lunati and relocating from Democrat to Olive Branch .

Lunati ? The platinum plus guy? He should definitely be in any hall of fame.

No but I think they are related. The cam company was around for decades before that guy got caught.

I think you can pinpoint the rising crime rate with the death of the real gentleman’s clubs in Memphis. Maybe not but it makes a good story.

Back during their heyday in the 80's I traveled a lot for work. I was in Tulsa and noticed a club not far from my hotel. Paid the $5 cover but the action was very weak. When I inquired and told them I was from Memphis they refunded the cover and one of the dancers came to sit with me and asked about the clubs in Memphis and her desire to go there to work.

They killed them when they stopped letting them sell alcohol. Maybe the dumbest thing ever done.

ncrdbl,

This is the 2nd Memphis Sports HOF induction. Many locals and sports talk hosts realized the biggest snub was The King, who was left off the initial class.

To put Lawler vs Roy Goodman is just simply hilarious

Holley drove Lunati into the ground and Joe bought it back at a fraction of what he sold it.

That was the purpose of them stopping beer sales, to shut down the clubs.

They may be related as the Platinum owner approached my buddy and I at Hooters one night and offered to be my tire sponsor but I turned him down.(most of my fan base were kids)

I know Danny Owens had a role in the Cotton Bowl track in Byhalia.

Your buddy Ricky Shelton quit Comp and works at Lunati now.

Mount Rushmore of all Memphis Sports?

Larry Finch
DeAngelo Williams
Keith Lee
Penny Hardaway

?

Morant plays here at this level for another half decade he moves in, but for who? Need longer time as a pro than as a college player. Who was that golfer, well even having to ask means no.

I was Quality Manager at Comp for 5 years. My receiving inspection department was in that building.

They’re more worried about exposed breasts and beer than they are murder and carjackings.

Joe Lunati and Ernie were brothers, I think.

Imo, Ray Godman was a crook. His braided hoses were more than double the price compared to everybody else.
