It’s just impossible to understand how a program can take such an apparent nosedive in one off season. I hope for the school and program that Quarles figures it out but he didn’t have the resume or the connections for this job. Scott so obviously had a man crush and acted on it.

Could not agree more. It is incomprehensible how many times the athletic department/university has failed to capitalize on success in our flagship sports. Every time, something always happens and they shoot themselves in the foot. To me, it's why programs like Belmont in basketball and App St. in football have gone on to be the programs they are today. Capitalized on their success

Quick look back — App State. Of course Jerry Moore built that program over 23 years. He owned the SoCon from 1991 through 2012 while ETSU football faltered and, of course died in 2003. They kept rolling after we were humiliated and kicked out of the Southern Conference. Even after they did Jerry Moore wrong in the end, they rolled on with Satterfield for 5 years and into the SBC, with Drinkwitz 1 year, and now with Clark in his 4th year. Nobody can really explain this - except that perhaps star players seek out ASU no matter the coach or AD - like basketball players used to seek out John Wooden at UCLA. These folks are riding one of the luckiest and longest college athletics waves of all times in that they are on their 3rd coach since Jerry Moore. And, Clark will go if he keeps beating the likes of Texas A&M and pulling rabbits out of hats like last Saturday. Back to that old proverbial question - what is ETSU to do?

A question we have to ask ourselves is how much losing can be tolerated this year? The team has all conference and even all American talent and was expected to at least compete for the championship. If we go 1-7 can we afford NOT to change coaches? Because the prospects for the coming year look even worse if we lose several more games this year. Our new AD will have his hands full for sure.

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
I think it as at least worth mentioning the 2019-20 season. Coming off a trip to the playoffs, we went 3-9 and everyone wanted to fire Randy Sanders. I've heard Coach Sanders say that the 2019-20 team was more talented than the playoff team, but that the breaks just didn't go their way. Of course this is a different situation but I feel that all the pieces are there except the offensive line. We know that the OL has talent, so this has got to be something that is correctable.

The problem now, of course, is that there really isn't that much to play for in terms of playoffs unless we win out and hope that all of the tiebreaker scenarios go our way? I guess the most important thing at this point is for the coaching staff to correct the issues and find a way to keep the team chemistry together to prevent a mass exodus.

Quarles - “Nobody wants to hear this – and I hate saying it – but it’s a fact that we’re just a couple of plays away from being 3-0 and not 1-2.”

Anybody buying this?

I’ll buy they could be 3-0. One score at the citadel would probably have won the game. Had 2 chances and came away with nothing. Same with Furman but they do have issues which if not resolved could make for a long season.

Agreed. Bucs could easily be 3-0. But as you say they have several things that have to be corrected. Our only hope is that they start to get it and improve the rest of the season.
