This should get its own thread. Any way to embed it?

He should be fired now. He just said no one could do better than what he’s done the last 5 years. Implication is that it’s impossible to win at Rice. He has let the challenges beat him. We need someone that doesn’t accept that

Embedding Twitter (and to a lesser extent, YouTube) are relatively straight forward, if you're comfortable working with the myBB tagging.

For twitter, the whole URL goes between start and stop tags that say twitter:

Code:
[twitter]https://twitter.com/markbermanfox26/status/1596633916202692608[/twitter]

For YouTube, you just include the string from the end of the URL (v=xxx), not the whole URL:

Code:
[youtube]R2qsK8tjZRs[/youtube]
if the URL is
Code:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2qsK8tjZRs

Owls at UNT
Of note yesterday I was surprised that no one here noticed that of the last 6 teams Rice has defeated, three of them WON yesterday in order to gain bowl eligibility (UAB, USM, and LaLa) and a fourth (UTEP) nearly did so.

While it is unfortunate that none of them had earned this status before yesterday, it strengthens our “resume”, as it were 03-wink

RE: Owls at UNT
Regardless of the results, here are some thoughts regarding the players.

1. Freshman QB - I thought Padgett played well for a freshman with the weight of bowl aspirations on his shoulders. He has a sizzling arm. The Spring competition should be very interesting.
2. It was great to see the redemption arc of Juma. I am not really sure why he was buried on the depth chart. Its terrible that injuries forced the hand of the powers that be to reinsert Juma into the lineup, but he has shown now that he was one of the best if not the best RB we have actually had on the roster. I do remember a lovefest regarding Khalan Griffin. Maybe he vaulted over Juma. But I also remember that Griffin had ball security issues with opened the door for Ari Broussard.
3. JoVoni Johnson finally got live game reps...at WR. A shame that it was on the road in the 4th quarter.
4. Chris Conti and Myron Morrison are extremely solid at LB.
5. It was great to see Treshawn Devones back on the field after battling injuries.

Of the upperclassmen, I don't know who will graduate and who stay, but it was entertaining seeing some of the development of the players. I really like the direction of defensive line and linebackers. I think that the secondary still has a few gaps (and I'm not convinced that Taylor is anywhere near 90% healthy). I didn't watch the Charlotte game, so I am not sure as to what the breakdowns were defensively, but the defensive line coach has done a serviceable job for sure.

On offense, I am intrigued by what could be better than average QB play with the competition between TJ, Itraish, and Padgett. And hopefully if the kid from Alief (Chase Jenkins) signs, that position could be better than average over the next two years. Especially if McCaffery stays, and younger talent develops (Tyson Thompson, Kobie Campbell, Walker, etc.). What would worry me is the run game and the offensive line. Specifically, I think that Juma and Cam are graduating. And has anyone seen Braden Nutter? I get that he put himself in line for discipline, but he has been gone since the ULL game.

There's been no official word from either camp, but I'd bet that the Aggies push to get their home game back now that they've won three of four since their unplanned week off and now also sit at 5-6. They're independent, so no tie-ins. They may call it if all the slots get filled tonight, but if tonight ends and there's a chance for a win-your-way-to-a-bid next week, I have to think they go for it.

True!

Quote:The Las Cruces Sun-News reported earlier this week that the Aggies were zeroing in on FCS opponent Valparaiso for a Dec. 3 clash at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Valparaiso must get an NCAA waiver in order to play a 12th game as an FCS team; if they get it, NMSU would have a 12th game of its own.

Source: https://www.ktsm.com/sports/college-spor...-its-mind/

Valpo has a 5-6 record this season. (https://fbschedules.com/2022-valparaiso-...-schedule/)

Looking at the New Mexico State schedule, I see that they already have one FCS victory (over Lamar, 51-14, on Nov. 12). A poster on the Valpo fan board notes that the Aggies would have to get its own NCAA waiver to allow a second FCS victory to count toward its bowl eligibility.

I also thought it odd that NMSU & Valpo would connect under these circumstances. But looking deeper, I see that Jack Jarnigan, the son of Valpo's Executive Associate Athletic Director Liz Jarnigan is a graduate assistant at New Mexico State. Jack was a four-year starter at center for Valparaiso; he graduated in 2019.

I hope that the NCAA will value its APR priority procedure for 5-win bowl aspirants over an appeal that a second FCS win should enable 6-win bowl eligibility.

we'll see....

New Mexico State (5-6) seeks waiver to play in bowl game

Quote:There are currently 79 bowl-eligible teams for 82 available spots, although Buffalo can get to six wins when it faces Akron in a rescheduled game Friday. If not every spot is filled, 5-7 teams with the highest Academic Progress Rate scores are granted eligibility, starting with Rice and UNLV, which fired coach Marcus Arroyo on Monday. Moccia noted that New Mexico State's 5-6 record carries a better percentage than 5-7 records but stressed that the team has tried to give itself a 12th game.

I hope NMSU is granted the waiver. The game with SJSU was unexpectedly canceled, and it sounds like they've done everything possible to find another opponent. If NMSU wins its appeal, and Buffalo wins its game, that leaves only one slot open for a 5-7 team...Rice. Am I correct?

Theoretically App State could also apply for the same waiver as NMSU, as they are 6-6 with two FCS wins

Has any word come from App State? Two of their wins are against FCS schools, so I don't think they have grounds for an appeal.

NMSU has a chance because their canceled game was against an FBS school.

It looks like we'll be the only 5-7 bowl team.

JMU is the one who should be petitioning to be eligible. Moved up and earned it. 6-3 in conference. 8-3 overall in their first year of FBS. Only reason they aren’t going bowling is because of a stupid rule saying you can’t play for a conference championship or go to a bowl in your first 2 years after moving up a division.
