Game Week: Buffalo
2017: Beat Rutgers then lose 6 straight.

2018: Beat Purdue then lose 4 straight.

2019: Beat Illinois then almost lose to CCSU then lose 2 straight.

This is an opportunity to get it right for a change.

I think this is going to be different, because it seems that we are a lot better than when we played those schools. In those games we weren't in control and had to play catch up. This game we really had controlled the every part of the game. And not to mention these next 2 games are against struggling programs. I think we start 4-1. That is a fantastic start of the season for us.

RE: Game Week: Buffalo
My 3 things to watch for in this week's game:
1. Can the O-line continue what they did against ASU. That was the best performance I've seen and if they can play like that again we will be able to sustain drives and control the clock with the run game.

2. Who will be at QB? I'm fine with Powell and need to see a couple MAC games to see what he really is. Even if he is healthy I think Austin has earned the right to be I the game for at least a few series. He is dynamic and while he still needs some arm mechanic adjustments, he provides a great advantage with his feet and his arm is good enough.

3. We need to win the take away battle. We have 1 pick on the year and MAC games always come down to the turnover battle. Our defense played GREAT against ASU and will need that same effort against a hungry Buffalo team

I'm bringing my wife and kid to the game and can't wait for it. Also, the Beer fest tickets are a great value.

RE: Game Week: Buffalo
This should be another big game for Samson. Buffalo not only gives up nearly 470 yards of offense a game, nearly 200 of it is on the ground. Even Holy Cross was able to rush for over 200 yards against them. The way we were able to dominate the line of scrimmage and run it right at ASU, I would hope we could do the same this week. If Smith plays it could be a huge rushing day as a team. We should be able to easily be able to put up 30+ points.

I haven't seen any of their games, but they are only scoring 22 PPG and seems to like to try and get things done through the air. Our defense seems to be settling in so hopefully the secondary holds up.

As other have pointed out, we don't have a great track record of success after beating P5 teams. Yes, we are at home and Buffalo is 0-3 with a loss to Holy Cross, but they just played Coastal Carolina tough and will be desperate. Hopefully the team is focused in and handles business and we can end that trend. 4-1 (1-0 in conference) is right there for the taking.

Anyone else remember the 2019 EMU- Buffalo game at Rynearson? UB mauled our lines and controlled the entire game. I would love to see EMU give some payback.

RE: Game Week: Buffalo
I really think this is the best EMU team I've seen since I started following. It's the direct result of better recruiting and getting more talent and competition in the rooms. Look at our secondary for example. ..You could argue our 2nd string would start for us most years.

Why is say this is because I believe this competition for starting spots and playing time will not allow us to have a hangover this week vs. Buffalo. No one wants to lose a spot.

My prediction......42-17 EMU

While I hope you are right I will reserve judgement. Better than the Quick Bowl team? Hm......

Well, I'm sure hoping we're better then the 2019 Quick bowl team, they finished 6-7 that year! The best CC team was the 2017 team that went 5-7! We lost so many close games! They never got blown out! Last year we did finish 7-6, but we got embarrassed by Liberty! This year's team has the potential to be great, if our defense played like it did against Arizona St, and if we continue running the ball! I'm still predicting 8-4 now! I said 7-5!

That was a good team. I like the qb on that team better but the way this defense, O-line, RB and WR are playing....it's an edge to this team It's early but I go back to the depth we have of finally having 3rd and 4th yr guys who were mostly all 3 star guys and their ability to compete and raise the standard.

Either way, it's a lot of fun rooting for this squad. Very likeable and they grind.

Watched a little bit of of Buffalo's last 2 games. Their best player is probably their kicker. He can hit from 50+.

Buffalo's defensive line is going to be the challenge. This game could push our O-line some. Buffalo does a lot of twists, slants, and blitzes. They tend to blitz more than ASU, but not as much as EKU. This game could be a good test for the o-line and of the mobility of whoever is playing QB behind them.

Cid- what’s your prediction? I’m deciding how much of my house equity to lay on the line based on Cid the Greek prediction….

I'm definitely not taking this game for granted. Maybe we do simply over power Buffalo... but I wouldn't be surprised if its a dog fight to the end either. After the ASU win, we certainly have Buffalo's full attention.

I mentioned I watched some of Buffalo's last two games. I actually have a different response than you might think: the Holy Cross loss wasn't as bad as it seems and the 12 point loss to Coastal Carolina isn't as good as it seems.

Holy Cross is a highly ranked FCS team. They are ranked #12 right now (EKU is #20, FYI). That said, they are in the Patriot League, which means they are not a full 63 scholarship team. Don't get me wrong, Buffalo should NOT have lost to those guys at home. But they aren't a terrible FCS team either when compared to their partial scholarship peers.

On the flip side, Coastal is not at all the team they used to be. Two weeks ago they were in a close battle with Gardner-Webb (!!!) and they arguably should've lost that game. Look at the spread in their game tonight: they are only favored by 2 at 0-3 Georgia State. And Buffalo really only hung around because Coastal fumbled 4 times and once turned it over on downs at their own 32 yardline.

So what does all that mean? Idk... Hopefully EMU just comes out and takes care of business at home.

LOL...I'm hesitant to make a prediction on this one, although I did have a dream the Eagles win it 65-10. I sure as hell wouldn't bet the house on that, though.

Agreed it will be a good game I think Buffalo is better than their record but if we can play like we did last week, than I think we beat the brakes off of them. If we commit to the run and control the clock and we can get a takeaway than I really like our chances. It's when we decide to get away from running it (i.e. 2nd half against Louisiana) that we end up with a lot of 3 and outs.

I expect a good crowd for this game. Family events, car show and most importantly a good team taking on a good MAC opponent.

I hope the win last week has generated buzz and the students show up to tailgate and cheer the guys on

One drawback is that UM hosts Maryland at the same time. Here's hoping that Chad Ryland knocks in a game winner as the clock expires.
