Leftists NGOs funded the caravans of illegals when Trump was POTUS. Then Leftists and Democrats told illegals hey don't run from Border Patrol, line up at border checkpoints, turn yourself in and apply for ASYLUM. That way you can't get deported. Trump then created Remain in Mexico. It was so successful illegals stuck on the Mexican side began going back to their countries. Leftists then sued the Trump administration more times than I can count too to end that.
Trump also ended DACA, got sued over that and kinda won. SCOTUS said ok you have the authority to do that but you were kinda a meannie about it so do another order/program.

Personally, as a native-born Texan, I can tell you that there are some Hispanic Texans waking up and seeing that Democrat policies regarding immigration are actually detrimental to them and are turning away from them. It's the Republicans' job to get those to turn toward them and not just away from the Democrats. And yes, I've always felt that the Democrats wanting to give illegal aliens automatic citizenship is really a way to ensure they have a voting base that will ensure they have power for many years to come. (Now I'm for a pathway to citizenship for those who are already here, especially those who were under 18 because they weren't old enough to make that decision for themselves, but the way I'd want them to get it is this: First, go back to your country of origin (or even just that country's consulate so you have papers). Second (or instead of the first one for those who were under 18 when they came here), declare which country you wish to claim as your home. And third, apply for residence or even citizenship depending on which country you declared was yours because we do want you to keep your culture, but you also need to integrate enough into our society in order for you and any loved ones you have with you to be successful. I'd also ask them if they were applying for political asylum in case they were fleeing a country under tremendous turmoil. But again, that's just too cruel.)
