RE: ACC moving HQ to Charlotte
Not surprised. Seems like the ACC extracted lots of financial favors from Charlotte. Typical corporate HQ relocation project.

Charlotte will also help with proximity to football (ACCCG) and media (ESPN offices).

Indeed. Plus being the largest city in NC and being a transportation hub, there are the pro franchises located in Charlotte.

Actually that was in the bylaws if they were to choose Orlando, but still nobody wanted to go there.

RE: ACC moving HQ to Charlotte
I think that the ACC should move its headquarters outside of NC just to get rid of the perception that they favor the Carolina teams.

I think where a conference is headquartered is actually completely irrelevant, but it would be better for PR reasons if nothing else.

After this move, ACC HQ will be closer to Clemson (138 miles) than to Duke (145 miles) or Chapel Hill (141 miles). That's because Charlotte is on the border of North and South Carolina.

Yeah, but people usually think of things in terms of state borders.

Good points, Wahoowa!

Here's a map showing how close the new HQ will be to ESPNU/ESPN Events/SECN:

I doubt they really care. Certainly don't hide the fact that they do favor the Carolina schools.

Maybe they will put the office in Rock Hill or Fort Mill. Close to the airport, and further from the cities named for cigarettes if the ACC is to shed its Tobacco Road image.

Is Tobacco still a thing?

I just think of it as NC politics running the league. It is what it is...The ACC is still the best conference for most of these teams.

Winston, Salem, Bull Durham, Raleigh, Virginia Slims, Reynolds Arena, Duke University. I'm surprised there is not a Surgeon General Warning on ticket stubs.

Problem is they'd stick the teams in the Embassy Suites near the mall.
