If there’s one thing you can count on from Louisiana, it’s that all of their butts will be real. We’re definitely not in Hollywood anymore, Sammy!

That boudin isn’t good for the waistline, that’s for sure.

Hopefully their fans bring the best boudin out there - Best Stop makes a damn fine product. But something tells me some of their fans have strong opinions counter to that statement.

I'm a huge fan of Kartchner's, Johnson's, Borque's and Nunu's.

I'll be there tomorrow, though I'm now a Cajun lost in Texas resident, so the boudin will have to be pulled from my freezer.

Gmornin’ Petro! I know you came here for the Boudin, but let’s talk football a minute.

Do you guys feel like this year’s Cajuns are on par with last year’s team? Is this a conference title contender? And if so what about the NY6 bowl? Or do you expect to take a step back with player turnover and the new HC?

Around here we are kinda split as to whether this Rice team has what it takes to break our 7-year bowl drought. We’ve had bright spots in the first two weeks, but this weekend is our first real test after starting with a top ten and then a FCS in the first two weeks. I’m usually leading the charge for a optimistic prediction but I’m actually a little surprised how many Rice fans on this board have predicted a narrow win tomorrow.

I honestly still don't know what to truly expect from this team. Having a new starting QB (and playing two of them) after three seasons of stability with Levi Lewis at the position. We lost two from our three-headed monster backfield from last season (with Montrell Johnson now at Florida and their leading rusher), along with other losses on the OL and on defense via guys transferring out with that NIL free agency now in place.

We have talent in places, alot of it even, but we've also got some gaps and expected growing pains. Last week was a perfect example. E Michigan, while not a horrible team (played in a bowl last season) was beating us 14-0 at halftime, as we appeared to look like utter dog **** pretty much that full 30 minutes. Then we outscore them 49-7 in the second half, looking like complete world-beaters.

That tells me we maybe have the potential to still be as good as the past two seasons, and potential to beat App St. or Marshall, but if we keep being inconsistent and have a first half vs. one of those guys like we did vs. E. Michigan, we'll find ourselves down 31-0 at halftime with zero chance to crawl out of that large a hole.

I hope ya'll bring a pretty good crowd. I felt really bad for yall's baseball players when I attended the mid-week game earlier this Spring. Think Cajun fans outnumbered Rice fans 5 to 1. It's always good with alumni, and students, support the student athletes representing their school.

I remember that Louisiana travels well. I’m guessing they bring a big, colorful and rowdy crowd. And I hope we do the same. This game is really important. Sorta the early season pivot for us. Lose and things are really difficult. Win and our road to a bowl widens up considerably.

Rice wins a game that is tight from start to finish. 23-21.

Well stated. Very big game. I hope they bring their band.

Pep band to play in the stands.

Awesome

Thanks and hope you enjoy some of our new amenities as we’ve done some stadium updates this off-season. I do expect y’all to outnumber us somewhat this weekend but (since I’m out of town and can’t attend this one in person) I’ll be happy if the game sounds like it has fans of both schools cheering it’s teams’ good plays.

I naturally assume that Cajuns are very vocal, so any decibel advantage I hear on the broadcast I’ll just attribute to that, rather than any imbalance in actual numbers!

I like Rice winning.

I don't mind a tight game.

But 23-21 sounds to me as though we will have to kick a last play FG to win. I don't like going into the last 2 minutes trailing 21-20.

How about almost (but not quite) blowing a 23-0 halftime lead?

Either way I’ll take it over that twiddly 22-21 win we had in 1983.

Almost blowing a 23 point halftime lead is NOT better than needing to kick a FG to win.

The larger question in my mind is, how did we get to 23 to start with? Missed XP? Settling for a FG on three trips into the red zone? I can think of no way to get to 23 that I like.

3 TDs, 1 successful XP kick and 2 successful 2-point XP tries. Kicker got a cramp.

2 TDs. 3FGs.
I’m guessing we might have trouble in the red zone. And in a tight game we might be forced to put points on the board with FGs …if we can’t punch in for the TDs.

That’s assuming we get into the red zone several times. And the assuming our D holds Louisiana to 3 TDs. All big assumptions.

I don’t like settling for FGs, but if we win, I don’t care if it is 7 FGs and a safety.

Just win!

RE: Rice vs. Louisiana
The Roost posted the views of Cory Diaz of Lafayette newspaper (The Daily Advertiser) ... who is very optimistic for his Ragin' Cajuns:

Quote:...there hasn't been any drastic changes from Billy Napier. ... UL has worked in more of the passing game to feed the strength of the team, its receivers. Michael Jefferson is an NFL caliber player, tight end Johnny Lumpkin will be playing on Sundays. Defensively, the Ragin Cajuns are running a nickel-base defense under first-year defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan.

... (Starting QB Chandler Fields will) be on the field majority of the time, but (backup Ben) Wooldridge has played well and as we saw last week, has made big plays for UL.

(Playmakers on defense include) cornerback Eric Garror ... an All-American talent. Defensive tackle Zi'Yon Hill-Green and outside linebacker Andre Jones headline a defensive front and are expected to be either draft picks or free agent signees come April.

(On special teams,) Garror is special, no pun intended, as a returner. He's already taken on punt return to the house this season in the opener against Southeastern Louisiana and was a few yards away from doing it again last week against Eastern Michigan. ...

Lumpkin at right end is a defense's nightmare, especially once the Cajuns get inside the red zone. He's been nearly unguardable around the goal line with his 6-6, 268 frame. I anticipate Fields and Wooldridge to try and get him the ball early and often in Houston Saturday night.

We have an accordion in The MOB. One could argue that it's ALWAYS zydeco-adjacent.

Night and day difference between McMahon having his first read open and having to scan the field. A couple of poor throws and does not look comfortable cycling through his options. Gifted good field position and an unforced error (penalty) derails the drive.

Horrible decision by Louisiana, good hands by Nyakwol. Gotta turn this into 6 (or at least 3). Can't squander great field position on back-to-back drives.

4th and 4 at the 5-yard line. Should go for it. Your defense is playing well. Worst thing that can happen is Louisiana has to go 96 yards.

Edit: nope, Bloomgren plays coward football.
