Heck, I'd make schools pay the entire rest of the contract to any coach they fire, and make a coach that leaves a school sit out as long as their old contract would have run. Maybe that would cut down on the ridiculously long contracts and the accompanying buyout clauses.

If the coach leaves early and he must pay his current school a buyout, half the buyout should go into the players NIL Fund.

We've won 16, SIXTEEN, years in a row. Hell, we can't even throw a game away and lose. The PBS "home" game is smoke and mirrors. Nippert is the true home game atmosphere and home game advantage. Please move on after the 2029 contract ends. Please!

Until there is better option financially UC is keeping the series the way it is. This has been discussed so many times and the answer is that UC likes the arrangement and the costs associated with the game.
If enough UC fans stop going the landscape may change. I for one am done going to Miami game at Paycor.

By not going, who do you think you're hurting? You're not hurting UC.

I know I am not hurting UC I want to hurt the home team which is the Redskins.

The games at Paycor are a 50/50 revenue split. So you are hurting UC.

Few thoughts on this. Winning is fun. Winning is even better when you beat your main rival. I cannot wait for 17 in a row, let alone 50. Some of the fans I encountered Saturday, on both sides, feel the same. Ville and Pitt are not going to sched a yearly game with UC. Rivalry with Pitt was created during the BE days. Frankly, I do not think Pitt or WVU look at UC as rivals.

WVU will—-soon enough. Don’t think they see Texas Tech, TCU or Iowa State as rivals, either. They likely think Texas and Oklahoma are their rivals, but of course both of those schools are essentially out the door. So, other than Pitt, whom they despise, they will see Cincy as their foremost in-conference rival.

We have a 2 game series with Pitt starting next year.

WVU sees Pitt, Virginia Tech and Maryland as their main rivals.

Pitt views Penn State, WVU, Syracuse and Notre Dame as their chief rivals. Syracuse and WVU are the only two school's who reciprocate that.

I think someday WVU could potentially perceive UC as a rival if we stay in a conference with them again for a long while. Pitt has a much more elitist attitude about it.

Bolded, I was told that Pitt really wanted nothing to do with the travelling trophy for the "River City Rivalry" when UC initiated that back in Big East days. After all, Pitt has all those "national championships" from before the Civil War (almost).

WVU will become a great rivalry if conference alignment ever settles down. I still believe if the B12 picks up 2-6 Pac 12 schools in the west, that we could see a P3 alignment when the ACC GOR expires. The SEC, B10, and B12 could pick those bones apart and we'd see Pitt and Louisville in the B12.

Many don't look at Miami as rivals. I don't and I attended both schools. They are now an early season schedule filler. If many Miami fans and admins were to be completely honest about it, bet they'd like to see this series wrap up as an annual game.

They have students and former players who are over 40 years old who were on campus the last time they actually won the game. Lulz

I've actually seen this take on their board. The thought being Miami gets nothing out of this either except an L. They already usually schedule two body bag games a year against a B10/ACC type school every year (this year UK) and having a third P5 opponent sets you up to start out every year 1-3 OOC which really puts you behind the eight ball. They'd be better off keeping the other two body bag game and schedule a sure G5 win like UMass, UConn, Charlotte, etc so that they can at least finish 2-2 OOC before conference play warms up. This gives them the opportunity to do better than 6-7 wins they are currently getting and enables them to get their fan base somewhat excited about the season.

That all makes too much sense for Miami to do it. Having witnessed that series for many years, I've really been perplexed by how "the cradle of coaches" has blown it's reputation for being the class of the MAC and in another era, the Appy State of college football.

Until Martin arrived, there were many years where they couldn't even compete in the MAC against schools with much less reputation and football heritage. Now they're competing in the MAC but nowhere else. Maybe that ends Saturday at Northwestern. All the better for UC I suppose if the Redhawks take down even a weak sister in the B10 after losing to UC.

I didn't know they still had a board for the half dozen who still cared enough. I'm being serious.

Miami gets nothing but an L from this game. $$ isn't the carrot like the annual paydays they get for taking a couple P5 road game beat downs to pay the bills.

Miami fans get worked up over Ohio U as a rival. The older ones dislike UC historically but the youngsters have no frame of reference of anything except taking a bunch of blowout losses in this series.

So is winning against other teams but I understand what you mean - "auto" win column or something like that. I used DaVille, Pitt and WVU as an example of what most UC fans felt was more of a true rivalry. Whether or not Pitt or WVU AD's/fans felt similarly is another matter. If the university wants to continue the Miami series then fine...it's not a rivalry from my view - it's a team that we have played a lot. I would rather use that schedule slot more advantageously in terms of fan interest [the opposing fans as well] and brand/recruiting purposes in other parts of the Ohio/Michigan/Indiana region. I would hope we are now a program that is more interested in the latter than desiring an "auto" win in the name of tradition.

We have a 2 game series with Pitt starting next year.

Aware of that. I said schedule a yearly series. As far as I am aware, after these two there are no other's scheduled.

RE: "Rivalry" Week: Miami vs. Cincy
Going forward in the BXII, UC will have three OOC games. It has been said the preferred format will be FCS/G5, G5 and a P5 game. Here is what is currently on the books going forward:

2023
Eastern Kentucky
@Pitt
Miami OH

2024
Pitt
@Miami OH

2025
Miami OH
Nebraska
@WKU

2026
Boston College
@Ohio
Miami OH (at PBS)
WKU

2027
@Miami OH
@Boston College

2028
@Boise
Miami OH

2029
Boise
@Miami OH

So 2023 is done. For 2024 it appears UC will add an FCS/G5 school. 2025 looks to be set, but if Nebraska backs out we will need to replace a P5 game. UC will need to drop a game for 2026, likely at Ohio (the return game for the 2018 game at Nippert). For 2027 UC has one opening for an FCS/G5 opponent. 2028 and 2029 are the first times UC will be looking to add a future opponent who is not already on the books (if Nebraska does not drop the 2025 matchup).

Good thing we are catching Pitt when they are good again. Wouldn't that be something if Nebraska hired Urban and he had to visit Nip in 2025?

Seriously doubt that game ever happens since our trip to Lincoln was a Covid casualty.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here.

They've been ranked in the Top 25 six out of the past 8 years and are the reigning ACC champions. That'll do.
