Quote:Getting an earlier start, Nebraska fires (now-former) Head Coach Scott Frost after he went 1-2 to open the season, losing Sunday at home to Georgia Southern.

Associate head coach Mickey Joseph will take over for the rest of the season. Nebraska hosts Oklahoma on Saturday.

Frost will receive his full $15 million buyout, Alberts told reporters at a news conference. The buyout amount would have dropped to $7.5 million on Oct. 1. Alberts told reporters he needed to make a change now to be fair to the players and others around the program.

This has to be just about the fasted axing of a coach in a season ever. (edited to add Clay Helton USC last year tied it....)

Happened so fast the coacheshotseat.com still has him listed in their list.

Unfortunately #11 (soon to be #10) there is still hanging on.

During the spring 2021 season (technically the 2020 season but quite a few FBS teams didn't play until the spring), Edward Waters fired its coach after a single game.

https://thespun.com/college-football/col...ening-loss

I would also argue that Helton was earlier than Frost. Helton had coached two games in the 2021 season - Frost was up to three games in 2022. And I'm sure someone has mentioned this already, but Helton is now the head coach at Georgia Southern (which was the team to beat Nebraska and cause the Frost firing).

I assume Bloomgren #11? I didn't know there was a hotseat for a football coach at Rice. Good to hear. If we lose this weekend, I don't see a path to six wins. This is a very big game. This is the game that makes us, breaks us.

I think it is less of a hotseat and more of a game of musical chairs.

Musical chairs to me has the connotation of constant moving and scrambling.

Sticking with Bloom for 5 doesnt seem to evoke that frantic movement for me. More of an opposite issue.

True. I was just thinking of how many times he can get to a safe chair before being left out.

That is the different version of musical chairs. In that one you have the rule that you have to snag a bigger chair, and can do so when the music is playing.

Don’t forget the new chair has to be your dream chair even though your previous chairs were also your dream chair when you sat down.

I didn't realize ASU lost at home this past weekend to Eastern Michigan (who had been blown out in the 2nd half by Louisiana).

Oh my goodness...a University president that cares about how his teams perform...perish the thought!

Quote:"They showed up to play, and we didn’t," ASU president Michael Crow told The Arizona Republic after the game, via USA Today. "That’s basically the outcome."

I see that Holgorsen is #70 on the coaches hot seat list. Should that be higher since UH fires coaches that go 8-4? That means he can only lose one more regular season game.

RE: 2022-23 Football Coaching Carousel
Holgorsen has gotten a couple of head coaching jobs in weird circumstances. At West Virginia, he was brought in as heir apparent to Bill Stewart, and then Stewart got canned and Holgorsen promoted under circumstances that looked as if Holgorsen may have stabbed Stewart in the back. And the circumstances when he replaced Major at UH w ere also bit weird.

Nothing really says that Holgorsen is a bad guy, and Stewart behaved weirdly before the change at WVA, but it is strange how these things keep happening.
