NBR: MLB implements major changes in future
I love the rule banning shifts…will have to wait and see on pitch clock. Anybody been to a Barons game and noticed it? (MiLB has been using it)

The pitch clock has worked great here in Madison. It's not really noticeable, but it keeps the game moving along.

I personally hate the banning of shifts. There is almost always an entire side of the field a guy can hit to that he is just incapable of for whatever reason. These aren't children, they are professional players.

Yeah, I’m a fan of the new rules, minus the shift restrictions. You’re right, these are professional hitters, they should be able to beat the shift. Plus, I feel like it’s the equivalent of the NFL banning audibles at the line of scrimmage. Just feels wrong.

The problem is that you didn’t hire Judge or Mookie to slap singles to opp field. If I’m an opposing manager, I’ll take those types going 5/5 with 5 singles any day.

And fans don’t pay to see those guys slapping singles, either

You play to win the game. A fifty yard bomb is way more exciting than a five yard run in football too, but guys are allowed to be covered however you want in football. If you take them going 5/5 you might as well just walk them all season. The art of hitting is lost in baseball.

I wish college was using NFL clock, so tired or stopping the clock after a first down ,

One of the many reasons I don’t watch college football outside of UAB. On top of the fact it’s only a select few that really have a chance at a championship, the games just take so damn long. NFL games are usually less than 3 hours, while college football is a minimum of 3 and a half hours, usually pushing 4.

Tailgating and the in-person experience are FAR superior in NFL. I like watching college football, especially UAB of course, but go to Charlotte when the Steelers are in town or Nashville when Buffalo visits. The amount of electricity is just insane. I was confronted by a 70yr old Viking fan who wanted to fight me!

The product is packaged better and I think that's where the NFL really shines. The players are there to make their living and everything is about the game. No 20-min halftimes sitting and watching huge pomp and circumstance. And the time comment is true, too. The product is football and it has a cleaner pace than CFB

I have never been to an nfl game in which there weren’t multiple fights in the stands.

according to an article by profootballnetwork in 2021, from opening kick to final whistle, the average time in the NFL was 3 hours 12 minutes...in college it was 3 hours 24 minutes, a 6% increase (which includes a college halftime that is usually 8 minutes longer than NFL halftime)

I’m in favor of these new regulations, including the shift restrictions.
