Again, the local media has got to hold the political class accountable. Its a one party city and the media has to start calling them out on a daily basis.

As long as the media (both local and national) protect and serve the democrat party. nothing will ever change and this will only get worse and worse.

Memphis is rapidly becoming just another Baltimore/Detroit/Chicago. I left the city 2 years ago and won't be back.

It's really easy for these local "celebrity" types to try to act like manly men and hop on their Twitter feeds and rant about "fighting for your city". Please explain how that will work. Are you supposed to take to the streets with guns? If you're of the Anglo Saxon persuasion, you are not only vastly outnumbered, but the law is on their side. They can kill you with impunity, and won't even have to post bail. You fight back and you go to jail.

You also can't vote them out. Again, you're outnumbered. So how exactly does this "fighting back" work?

I'm assuming they will support and vote for a different party to run the city. Yeah, right. No money in that.

Well, giving up and walking away apparently doesn't work.

We all know that the idea of defunding the police and being soft on crime doesn't work, and as long as those people are in charge, nothing will change.

However, that doesn't absolve the rest of us from ignoring it, and saying nothing, but rather ensuring it doesn't spread further by voting it out where we live. Or moving back into the city and working to change attitudes and elected officials, rather than just giving up.

But you and I are talking around each other. I'm talking about loving the place where I grew up, and the people in it. Even now, the vast majority of people in Memphis are good people.

You seem to have thrown the entire city in the trash. Leaving the city and then just complaining about it online seems like a worse alternative than what others are posting that you are criticizing.

You seem to be angry at a political party and the race of some criminals. I may not know the answers to how to solve this, but it certainly isn't that.

I also would like to know what “fight for your city” means.

We’ve seen a couple places where a couple folks have done just that.

1. A young man goes to a city where violent protests are happening to defend business. Gets attacked with skateboards, defends himself and gets put on trial for murder and now forever vilified by the left.

2. Another couple minding their own business in the suburbs of a city where violence is a daily occurrence walk outside their front door son their own property, armed, and tell protestors to GTFO. They lose to the liberal govt.

3. Another city, where violent protest break out, a man (retired minority police officer) attempts to defend a business from looting and fire. He’s shot and killed by protestors (fellow minorities) and no outrage from the media or the left. He’s forgotten by them.

So tell me… WTF do they mean by “fight for your city!”???

There are a range of urban problems, differing from city to city. I don't much like the trajectory that Norfolk is on, but I'm not yet ready to quit. I sure hope that Memphis (which I've never visited) is not yet ready to give up on itself - - as have the formerly great cities of Portland, Seattle, St. Louis, Baltimore and so on.

Of course they are. But throwing up your hands and doing nothing, and just calling it a shithole isn't a solution, any more than bold platitudes under pressure.

My point has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with not trashing my hometown when I know it is still full of good people regardless of the political leadership.

It should mean for biological fathers to act like men and be dads. If more young black men had dads active in their lives 90% of these problems would go away.

IMO, it means speaking up and trying to change things for the better, through voting, putting public pressure on officials, volunteering on projects designed to help disadvantaged youth, etc., rather than being silent, or just giving up and trashing the place, figuratively speaking.
