D-Hall
Our early season tailgate food prep was a little weak, so stopped by D-Hall for a bit. First time in the new facility. The food was good as always, and it has a really nice view of BFS also on one side.
One minor complaint - there were tons of televisions all tuned into ESPN, but they were showing some random P5 games rather than UNC v App St, which was also on. In my mind, every television on campus should be showing the SBC games on gameday.
It was a little disappointing to watch part of the App St game on a cellphone, when there were perfectly good big screen TVs everywhere showing espn football. Other than that though, gameday was just about perfect. Next time we'll get our tailgate right.

I'm guessing DHall doesn't have ESPNU.

They had a sharp crystal clear feed for ESPN. A little silly if they don't have ESPN 2/U, etc on the campus network. I'd like to see them go a step further and stream different ESPN+ SBC games on different televisions ... there were more than enough TVs to do this. It was almost like a mini sports bar there in that respect already. The setup is already pretty darn good, just need to stream SBC content in.

Cheap and easy to stream ESPN+ to any TV.

We definitely should try to show the App St vs JMU game all over campus if possible. Not sure yet if it might get picked up by ESPN2/U or not.
Maybe line up some student buses to go also, though i suspect there's pretty limited ticket availability.

I just checked and ESPN2/U are included in the campus cable package. No ESPN3 though. It seems that JMU's cable package has come a very long way from where it was when I was a student. Go figure. Back when I was in school, it was basically like a cable package you would get in a hotel. It's amazing to me how many hotels still don't have ESPN2 in 2022.
Hopefully JMU will be investing in some ESPN+ commercial licenses for campus, given how many of our games (even beyond football) will be on that platform.

I would hope ESPN would give low cost or very favorable rates to schools that are providing that content. Would almost think with a phone call or two it might be free.

JMU's cable TV package is brought on campus by the same provider as student internet. Appogy is the company. They sell JMU a package, and it unfortunately dosent have ESPN+ in the line up. That contract was decided before JMU moved to SunBelt. Maybe when the current contract is up they can negotiate for more channels. The service has changed from cable tv to a network based format, all the TV on campus must be internet capable now, so a new lineup would be easy.

Good info.
I would have been fairly happy if someone at D-Hall had just changed the channel on a few of those nice big screens over to ESPN U with the App St vs UNC game. They were all tuned into ESPN.
