Not sure this deserves a thread, but ESPN commentators kept refering to Sun Belt as Fun Belt. Is this new? A marketing gimmick fron Sun Belt HQ or simply ESPN looking for a hook?

Either way I like it. Helps with identity. Hope it sticks.

We’ve been the Fun Belt for quite a few years now.

That's been a thing ESPN has been calling the SBC for a few years now.

I don't think the SBC started it, but the league has been perfectly happy milking it once it happened.

Oh, it goes back way further than that. I'm pretty sure it was a term dating back before App and Ga. Southern joined in '14.

I am pretty sure I remember it being used as far back as when App was rumored to be joining the Sun Belt.

But in defense of El Chanto, almost every word in every language is spoken for a long time before it is first written down in published articles, books, etc.

I would say it dates back roughly 10-15 years.

I was thinking I'd heard it around or shortly after our declined unofficial invite. That lines up with what you guys are finding, though obviously it still could've been around earlier than I ever saw it.

Yeah, we hashtagged #funbelt for quite some time and the league picked it up.

It went away when KG became commissioner and they cleaned house.

I've definitely heard it called the Fun Belt long before all of this. That 2013 reference above is probably about right.

It goes back several millennia and has been passed down through generations by fables and folklore, but has only recently become mainstream. I think there was a reference of it in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
