Game Week: @Louisiana
EMU is faced with the daunting task of play @Louisiana on the NFL Network. (That means we get to record the game for posterity). They have a really nice, sunken field (pray for no tropical storms, etc.).

Louisiana's conference (Sun Belt) was more impressive than the MAC. ODU upset Va. Tech. Appy State lost by two against N. Carolina in a game with over 120 points scored. Coastal beat Army. Newbie, James Madison (I wanted them in the MAC with say W. KY) rolled over M. TN. State.

The MAC was blah all weekend.

Louisiana is picked #1 in the Sun Belt West but this isn't the same team as last year. Their HC left for Florida. They had 20 returning starters. Their QB is gone.

Just remember we are playing the 2022 team, not the 2021 team.

Their opening game was 24 - 7 over SE Louisiana, a FCS school.

This could be a high scoring affair. You know Creighton is going to get the guys fired up, let's see if we can stop someone. This one could get ugly but hopefully we can hang for awhile.

RE: Game Week: @Louisiana
Attendance for their game yesterday was marked at 16,800 according to the school site We had something like 16,500 so it's not like we will be walking into a major crowd disadvantage so that is good. Weather, travel and talent will be enough for our guys to deal with.

After watching CC's presser he said that there was no confidence to be taken from our game. It sounded like he was happy to win but he and the team know they didn't play at all to their ability. If we can clean up our play, Powell has a game and we can get a score on special teams then I really think we have a chance. Louisiana is really good but as it was mentioned this year is different in a lot of ways from '21. They are also going through a QB competition as 2 guys split reps in wk 1.

If we play our best, which I really think we can, then we have a decent chance. Last week no one on either side of the ball had a break out game and someone is due. If we win either of the next 2 games and beat UMass, then we are looking at 3-1 in OOC games which would give us a lot of momentum going in to league play, drum up some buzz for the home game the 24th vs. Buffalo and solidify our chance at a good bowl game. There is A LOT riding on this game.

This is their stadium, a view of a full stadium. Seems like a perfect G5 stadium, although the capacity might be a bit much. I love the horseshoe with double decking on the home side.

And the weather forecast: possible rains all week. Welcome to the Swamp.

Yes their stadium is amazing!!! Maybe in a couple more years of Wetherbe building a relationship with Tom Gorres, he offers up some financial support for the Tom Gorres-Rynearson stadium :-)

Do you mean they have 20 returning starters or they had them and they left when the coach left for Florida?

I look at this game like the game we played a few years back against San Diego State. Both Louisiana and SDSU are kind of looked at as top level G5 programs. We went out there and played SDSU tough and nearly beat them (took them to OT).

If we want to start being thought of as a serious G5 program this is the kind of game we need to another game like that SDSU game. Hopefully we can get down there them tough until the end and, unlike SDSU, sneak out the win in the end!

My heart:

EMU 41
Louisiana 38

My head:

Louisiana 44
EMU 27

When you can not run the ball to keep your defense off the field, then high scoring games will result (ie last week). Except Louisiana is a superior opponent.

Dear Friends,
What I have learned through the centuries, is that every team is different, and we all know that. My point is, our team may match better with some of our opponents then others. That is taking into account even some teams that we may consider better then others, but we may perform better against them.
I am aware that Louisiana should be a tougher foe than Eastern Kentucky, but that is my point made above. They were beating Southeast Louisiana 17-7 going into the fourth quarter, and scored a fourth quarter touchdown winning 24-7. Is that what it was supposed to be? Or were the Rajun Cajuns supposed to win bigger than that?

Ken,

You’re absolutely correct. If we face a team with a poor running game, I believe our chances improve. However if we want to be MAC champions - then we need a running game like NIU and CMU (note where they finished last season and where they’re picked this season). Why did NIU win the close games last season - perhaps due to being a Top MAC rushing team. Not having a running game is the only reason Robacks team didn’t win the MAC.

So I understand people think our rushing attack stinks but Eastern ranks in the top half of the MAC in rushing and not to mention Samson Evans is the MAC's second-leading rusher only behind Ohio's Sieh Bangura
And not to mention, I don't think Creighton had a clear idea of our rushing attack last week since it was week one. I am positive by the buffalo game we should have our run game figured out

I still like our line and I also think Evans and Jalon Jackson are really good. Our run game doesn't give me pause. We need to get a score on a pick 6 pr special teams

Greetings from Cajun Nation. This weekend's attendance was adversely affected by drenching rains that fell all day up until game time. Ironically, the rain stopped just before the game, and it was very pleasant during the game. Right now, the weather forecast looks the same for this weekend, even to the point the rain is projected to end prior to game time. I hope some of your fans can make it down for the game. I believe you will enjoy Cajun Country.
