I wonder what the opinion will be this week?

Interestingly, the MWC has gotten fewer votes than any of the other G5 conferences in the poll. The Massey Composite currently ranks the MWC as the #3 G5 conference, halfway between the SBC and CUSA.

After week 3…SBC remains top G5 to date. Per the eye test.

Per ‘way too influenced by past years seasons’ computer polls, AAC has the nod.

And “the Mountain West is…NOT at the peak!”. We’ve fallen off and are hanging on the side of a cliff by our safety line…trying not to be overtaken by interim Cusa. At least the MAC isn’t a threat and solidly holds the bottom.

HOWEVER! Take the conference lineups to be, and the rankings are solidly - per computers, perception, on-field performance - this! (So far for this season)…

The Sun Belt went 4-0 in OOC games this week. The AAC went 4-4 (.500), so the Sun Belt fared better from that standpoint in week 4.

Now that all is said and done (save the bowls) I'm sticking with the AAC, followed by Sun Belt, then MWC third.

Breaking it down, the difference is performance vs other G5. Neither did anything vs the P5 this year (AAC 3-13, SBC 2-10) but the AAC is 9-3 vs other G5, while the SBC is 9-7.

It’s AAC……….and hundreds of miles below, everyone else.

1. AAC- 3 ranked teams, 6 teams with winning records (7 bowl teams)
2. MWC- 6 teams with winning records (7 bowl teams)
3. Sun Belt- 5 teams with winning records (9 bowl teams)
4. C-USA- 1 ranked team, 4 teams with winning records, (5 bowl teams)
5. MAC- Only 3 teams with winning records (5 bowl teams)

Coastal lost their shot to play Virginia following their tragedy but stood a good chance of picking up a 5th win for the league. South Alabama lost by 1 point at UCLA on a FG as time expired; if South wins that game and ended 11-1 they might find themselves competing for the NY6.

I agree with you that the SBC didn’t do well enough against peer competition. Three losses were really bad. Texas State losing to Nevada, Georgia State losing to Charlotte, and Marshall losing to Bowling Green the week after beating Notre Dame were unexpected. Here is what our OOC looks like prior to bowl games:

The CFP committee. I think that was the plan coming into the season, to promote the upcoming P5 inventory. Either that, or these guys are too lazy to pay attention to G5 football and just choose whoever is at the top of the AAC.

The MAC is the only G5 conference that plays its CCG at a neutral site NFL venue like all the P5 conferences.

The leftovers from CUSA moving down didn't help. App State was 1-2, Coastal was 2-2, and ULaLaLa was 1-1 vs. the newbies.
